What year did the modern 330d/335d become available? These are not available in the US yet, and I may look for a sport wagon with one of the above engines in a left hand drive country.

Any suggestions?

If you are dead set on having a MT you will have to get the 330d. The 335d doesn't have MT available due to the torque it has.

The current generation E91 (i.e. Touring or wagon) was introduced in the 2006 MY along with the E90 (sedan). (The couple E92 and convertible followed in the 2007 MY).

I believe the E91 330d was available in Europe when the E91 was introduced, but I don't believe that the E91 335d was available until the 2007 MY.

If you're thinking about importing, you're probably better off settling with a US market E91 328. BMW prices in Europe and in other parts of the world, are 50% + the prices in the US. For example, a well equipped 330d in Italy will cost you the equivalent of $60K. In addition to the higher prices in these countries you have to add the cost and hassle of importing.

importing a car, you will pay your country's VAT on it. which more often then not wil make the car almost same price as locally, may be about 10-15% cheaper BUT you get a car from US, without warranty that's used in europe (we dont get 4 year 100000miles warranty here) and so you will be also stuck with it. Cheap people pay twice. so be ready for risks that come with such purchase.

Driving a diesel with a manual transmission is nothing like driving a petrol with a manual transmission. It is more work than anything with a diesel, as they don't rev very high so you wait wait wait and all of a sudden the car jerks forward and its time to shift. If I have to choose between the two, I would take the 335d.

in US tha cars are cheaper but the quality is shit!! I talked to a dealer and had a x5 from US made for US market and he said it's very bad!!

My e92 came off the same assembly line in Regensburg as the ones sold in Europe.
