true. How ever when a alarm sound you will look at where the sounds come from instead of running towards it. If theres someone doing something horrible to your car and alarm sound, at least it will scare him away. I am sure they are not that dumb to continue working with alarms up.

well, alarms draws attention and thats what its made for.

Personally, I find the alarm useless. My 530 got broken into at a movie theater a few years back, lost my work phone, my pda, and a bag of apples (yes I'm not kidding). Apparently they drilled out the lock and being that I was in a movie theater I didn't know about it till I got back into my car.

No alarm will stop a determined theif.

Are you sure about that? My car has CA and my mirrors will not fold-in if I press and hold the lock button.

The 3 series the alarm is an option. All others come standard. That pissed me off. I don't care about the alarm I just like the confirmation that I locked the doors.

The dealer used to be able to program the car as if it had the alarm when in fact it did not. This would make the red light in the clown nose blink and give you a horn beep or some other audio confirmation when you locked the car. My understanding is that now they cannot do this. This can only be done if you have the alarm. But, I'm 100% sure about this.

That's the other strange thing...my car is supposed to have the alarm. The red light blinks when the car is locked n' all, but I have not been able to get the alarm to sound either by making someone jump around inside the locked car, or by manually opening the door with "the key" with the system armed. Wonder what gives...?

Once the alarm components are installed, the light will blink, but the system will not be active until the vehicle has been "re-coded" (reprogrammed) by the dealer. This seems to be a more involved process than it used to be. Most dealers charge about an hour's labor.

Is there a way to configure settings via buttons or idrive whereby the outside mirrors will automatically fold in when you lock/leave and automatically foldout when you unlock/return?
There is a new remote key system that allows you to auto fold the mirrors when you activate and unfold when you deactivate. There have been posts here on this forum. Check out the link:
