I haven't visited this section in a long time. Just remembered this thread.

I ended up buy a 6d shortly after this thread. I took it on a trip and took some good pictures with it. After that I didn't get a chance to use it for almost half a year so I sold it. I ended up regretting it as I now want a camera. So now I'm looking to pick up a 6d again. I'm still thinking about springing for the 5dIII though.

Here are some pictures I took with the 6d on the trip.

if it's any consolation, 5D3s are on sale quite often. Pick one up!

That's what I'm thinking too. The one thing I missed was the joystick. Also, I remember trying to take a picture of a friend's kid on a swing and couldn't focus on her face for the life of me. I'm waiting for a good sale and jump on a 5D3.

Well, that's a good reason, but none of those pix that you showed us would have been any better with a 5D MkIII. BTW, great pix.

Thank you, and I agree. I figured if I get the 5DIII I would have more reason to go out and shoot action stuff.

Cool. I have both bodies and use the 6D for indoor, low-light stuff and the 5D MkIII for everything else. If you can afford to, keep the 6D. It's still the better low light rig.

Perhaps in the future I can get and keep both.

Just saw that quite a few nice deals came around this week. I think the 6D was on sale, but now that the 7D MKII is out, I'm waiting to see what the verdict is on that one.

Just saw this. I don't frequent this section too much. I actually decided to stick with the 6d so I sold the 5d3 unused for a few quick bucks.

Curious as to how you made money buying and then selling the 5D?

Pretty simple really: I bought a 5d3 kit that was brand new from a guy. Checked the shutter click to verify. I was thinking about using it but then figured I don't need the AF of the 5d3. Before buying I knew that I could list it higher than what I bought it for. So I listed it, sold it and made some $ off of it.

Edit: IIRC the kit was bought for $2900-3000. I sold the 24-105 lens for $600 or so and the body for about $2700-2800.

Do you mind telling me how much you bought it for? I'm hoping to be able to snatch a body only for close to $2K (new).

Depends on what you shoot, If you are gonna shoot a lot of action/sports, the 5DIII would be a better choice

It's grey market though with no US warranty card. I'm afraid it might be difficult to resell later. People tend to shy away from grey market stuff.

Depends on what you shoot. For sports, wildlife and astro, the 7D MkII is champ. Only if you cover indoor sports do you need to consider the 1D X. The higher pixel-density, AF accuracy and 10-fps make it ideal where speed is desired.

For full-frame, I can't see owning both the 5D MkIII and the 6D. The low light performance of the 5D3 is good enough, unless that's a specialty. It's excellent. If I were going to have a two-camera rig, it'd be the 5D3 and 7D2, which is what I have. Both have pro-level AF systems and get the most out of Canon's very best lenses.

Appreciate the PM, by the way. It's my understanding that there's no difference between a gray market and a US model, apart from the warranty. So if you keep it for a year, and sell it, it should not matter to potential buyers.
