Provided you like the rest of the changes, that's cool. But the overwhelming sentiment I'm seeing is that this change is not welcomed at all. I don't use Flickr except for university images, but even there I think it's much more difficult to find your way around.

That said, Facebook changes always bring a storm of protest before things settle down and folks get used to the new interface. Same with Windows 8. Once you get used to it, it's not all that bad.

As for the ads, just use Firefox and AdBlocker Plus (ABP). Until people started complaining about the Ad-free cost going up, I didn't realize Flickr even had ads. I've never seen them. Same with this site. What banner ads?

Here's a question; how do you view EXIF in the new Flickr interface? The normal pulldown menu is gone.

There is a little row of buttons in the bottom right hand corner, with the right-most button being 3 dots... that pulls up the old Actions menu.

Thanks, David. Morse Code for EXIF, not doubt.

Np.

Actually that three dot symbol appears to be the new universal internet symbol for "more options". I have seen it on a few other sites recently and it always pulls up a menu of some sort.

Usually a menu that no one seems to be able to find

I like the look of the new Flickr but miss the most useful EXIF being shown on the photo page. It used to be on the right, and displayed shutter speed/iso/aperture/ and one other I can't remember.

It also appears a lot harder to navigate your photostream without going back and forth a lot using browser's back button. Hopefully they'll get enough complaints on it to provide some better navigation other than "previous" and "next" photos...

I have a Pro account which I believe is unlimited space, so the new free 1TB thing has no effect on my Flickr usage.

But for those who don't it seems like a great deal. I haven't read into the other changes yet. The iPhone app sucks, so maybe that was improved? :

I like the new look...I'm sure they are still tweaking everything and it will look even better?

I don't find it more difficult to navigate around than before.. but I do agree flickr has never been very user friendly to finding how to do things quickly. It took me forever to find how to change my full name after they changed the format LOL

I'm having no trouble navigating (use the X button in the upper right to get back to the old style header) and like the presentation. I really like that my images show in a much larger default size than before and you merely click on the image to get into Slideshow mode.

I too miss the abbreviated EXIF that was at thee lower right for the last few months.

It's still poor vs. SmugMug for selling prints an merchandise, but it's a superior social site to SM.

I haven't looked into the Group discussion function. It was absolutely worthless before, since it didn't give notice when a conversation moved forward. Hopefully they've enhanced that.

There are some BMW Group there, but not real meaningful. It's hard to have a discussion on Flickr and they've done nothing to remedy that.

All the whining about the new format just blows my mind. People are complaining that content was sacrificed for look, when all the content is still there. To me, the look, is top priority in an imaging site. I like that people will see my images in larger default sizes than before. I strain to try to get as much detail as possible and all that is lost with small files.

I like it.

I was referring to navigating once you've clicked on an image from the photostream, to view another image not directly before or after that image in the photostream...

I just noticed it's right there underneath the image on the right (the old filmstrip, that is) ...

I wasn't referring to you as whineing. I was talking about all those complaining over in the Flickr Groups.

I think I like it, but there is a slight learning curve so far.

After a few days of using the new Flickr I can report several new positives.

I'm getting much more traffic. One of my pix was selected for Explore. The picture of the moon had several thousand views in less than two-days. Previous Explore pictures got only a few hundred views.

I posted a Set of 55-images of a coyote playing with a snake that it had captured. The Set got almost 3,000 views in 24-hours. I think it's because the new format allows people to view the Set as a whole and follow the train of action that the coyote went through. All the images, as a group, got around 4,000 views.

Once or twice per day I review the recent uploads of my Contacts. It's much easier now and quicker. I see a larger image of my Contacts' images and can quickly Fave, View and/or Comment. It's a significant improvement.

Lots of Flickr users are whining and complaining about the new look, but I have nothing but positive experience.

Dave
