E30.

Plenty of parts and easy to work on. Plus not as heavy as the E36.

You can get an E36 down to 2700lbs caged very easily. If you go really crazy 2400-2500 is possible. Theyre not very heavy and the suspension is worlds better than the e30

A friend of mine has a 1988(?) E30 325i, with konis and rollcage. Great trackdaycar and nice to go and keep sideways(on a wet surface) though I 'd go for a good E36 M3 3.0...

Or a 1979 M1

i have an e36/7 M roadster that's a great track car; the M coupe is even more rare. shares the same s52 engine as the M3
