Full Intake or just Drop-In Filter?
Im still trying to decide on getting a full Macht Schnell Intake or just a drop in filter. I would like to get a poll to see who all has a full aftermarket intake or just a filter on the N/A motor, this might help me decide.
Thanks!

looks like drop in is the more popular choice so far...

The factory airbox and plenum is actually very good! When I'm cruising about 50 mph and there is some water droplets in the hood vent, the air passing through the airbox, the water is actually flung Up and out. I'm sure it's different when WOT but I doubt there is any restriction. I'm no expert just giving my opinion.
The only bottleneck, IMO, would be between the airbox and intake manifold if any. The only thing I don't like about the OEM setup is the filter is held in by a spring instead of being hose clamped. Save your money and and get a drop in. put the savings to other mods.. |

From a horsepower point of view a full intake may be worth a few more ponies and therefore not the better value. However, if you want to hear more intake glory then a full intake is more your speed. BTW, when I am speaking of a full intake. I am talking about Dinan, Matt Schnell or AFE Stg. 2 intake which actually keep the factory intake in place other than the filter and elbow that connects the filter to the plenum.

I would like just a bit more intake sound - curious how the full intake systems from dinan or MS enhance the intake sound when they appear to use the OEM air box?

For sound, either, nil on power. Filtration will suffer with non-paper filters however.
