Let me join in on it! My stock 4000lb S4 () is faster than a 335is, 335 as tested by edmunds and motorweek, so don't mess with an S4 when you see one. 4.7s 0-60 and 4.3 with a rolling start. 1/4 mile in 13.1 and some people have clocked it at 12.9. SO by these numbers alone, S4's supercharged engine > N55 > N54

Where's the N54 / N55 engine? VW/Audi has 3 engines on there and BMW only has the turbo diesel. Oh snap!

Hi sf_loft,

I didn't mean calling you retard with ill intentions. It was kind of more in like a 3rd grade sarcastic tone. I did not mean to attack you or the mentally challenged people out there.

my bad,

With the lower RPM needed to hit peak torque, I would say that the N55 should not suffer any significant disadvantage to the N54 in acceleration times. I honestly doubt any of us could walk into a BMW dealership and notice any difference in the new 335i versus a stock N54 335i...

That being said, there are some reviews on here that compare the N55 to the N54 by owners who traded to the new 335i. One said it was less laggy and felt faster, the other said it had more lag and wasn't as explosive as the N54... That leads me to believe they are pretty much even

Isn't Audi known to be a FWD and heavy V6 powered car? Although they have improved. They are nice but as you say it's odd to make comparos on a BMW forum. Say an RS4 is way better than a 323i. Why does it need to be mentioned here?

brey - i like ur rationale here u make a good point ... there are plenty of discrepancies btw the handful of reviews here

leads me to believe that if there are any differences w the n55 they are negligible and may be overcome by better response or more torque in a different section of the curve, etc.

i really wanna drive one, just hate goin to the dealer without a reason

I was actually able to find something that was published just a couple of days ago.

http://www.bmwblog.com/2010/07/08/bm...bling-rivalry/

4.8 seconds for the 2011 335i. I am 90% sure they are talking about the 2011 335i.

"Performance figures split the siblings perfectly in thirds. We find the 335i Coupe to have a 0-60 acceleration time of 4.8 seconds, while the 335iS finds 60 in an estimated 4.6 sec, topped only by the M3’s 4.1 second acceleration time".

Pretty fun article overall.

Ok nevermind. I asked the writer of the article what year the car that was tested and he said.

"You bring up a good point, the numbers we quoted for the 335i (Car and Driver) were from 2007. To the best of our searches we did not find any test results on the updated 2011 model sporting the N55 single twin-scroll turbo. While BMW claim identical power output from both engines with a 10% increase in efficiency in the N55 – we do not know if the 2011 will be as quick. Unfortunately, we are not (yet) setup to perform our own reliable testing to find exact numbers. In the future, we aim to bring you our own independent testing numbers."

Well I hit a 13.69 in the 1/4 with 85+ degree temps and high humidity. Oh and I weigh in around 210

Why not same hp and torque but twin scroll has torque a couple hundred rpms sooner. I sell these and the perforamce on the twin scorrl to the twin turbo is so close that the driver and the particular car decide the outcome more than the engine differences.

Good to hear more input that the performance is almost identical

4.1???? There's no way.... even with the DCT. I test drove one and it didn't feel that fast

I am not even sure now where they got those numbers from. When I asked them about the 335i he said they quoted the 2007 335i car and driver numbers. I didn't bother asking about the M3. Although in the article the do talk about the 2011 IS and M3 I believe... maybe
