Wow... Im fully aware of what a corvette can do. Thanks.

do you know that they have a ZR-1... that is supercharged?

So does that mean its sucks? its not N/A.... God just stop.

i bet if you throw on a turbo or supercharger it would be faster then a i/h/e vette.

its probably the same face the 335 drivers get when a 1 series smokes their asses.

We're arguing 2 different things. FI makes a car faster, I agree. NA is more visceral for the enthusiast. Speed =/= enthusiasm for everyone

Never had that happen before. But then again I'm JB4'd.

A whole pointless thread and no one brought up the "artificial" electronic power steering that's coming on the F30? That would be yet another pointless thing to rant about that won't be any good.

From what I understand, the next gen vette will be a smaller v8 with twin turbo. Rumor has it its 4.8L. Not sure what will (if they still offer those models) Z06 and Zr1 one will have for an engine.

i would play along with your flawed logic and say that 1 series drivers might fly also, but it would go on forever, you would likely say... well i will buy a space shuttle, and so on and so forth. have fun.

What I find amusing is reading back at some threads BEFORE the 1M came out, so many were saying if BMW ever went turbo on a M car, they would never buy or they would leave. Then you read what they drive and what do you know, they have the 1M.

If BMW ever makes a '3M', would they be in legal shit with the "real" 3M?

Something to ponder

Of course BMW knows how to make NA engines. They basically maxed out the 3.2L I6 with the S54.
Yep, CAFE standards. When BMW can meet these standards with an engine that produces more HP, torque, and MPG, it's a no-brainer.

What is going on with all the Turbo hate? I could understand from the dated point of view of turbo lag and reliability, but times have changed. The newer technology is amazing and it truely is the best of both worlds.

I have previously owned a Supra twin turbo that I dumped a ton of mods into. (single turbo, intercooler, cams, built tranny, high stall TQC, electronics, etc). That car put down 500 rwhp through an auto box on a dyno. It was the most intense car I have ever driven.

Best of all? It was the best of both worlds. I could daily drive it and keep my foot out of it and get respectable gas mileage. Or, I could bury my foot in it and take nearly any car on the road.

What I really dont understand are the performance critics. Turbos give peak torque through such a massive power band. Why would you want anything less??

The new m5 has turbo lag. The 1m throttle response is close to an m3 but not exactly there.I think turbos are just an easy way out engineering wise.

I just find this thread funny. You knew the car was turbo'd before you bought it and you still purchased it. Now you are whining when BMW doesn't make a N/A engine. Why don't you just go buy a Vette then? Some people understand the potential power of a FI engine over a N/A engine.

I chose my 135i because it was just as quick as a stock 06 GTO, close to the quickness 5.0 Mustang, faster than a Camaro SS and also it got better gas mileage and still had 4 seats. While you're swapping heads, adding a cam(s) or stroking your N/A engine, the FI guys are tuning, adding meth, swapping turbo's/changing pullies or adding a FMIC. They will still be faster and making more power.

Top fuel dragster are S/C monster V8s pushing 8000 hp, why? Because the V8 is as far as it will go so they needed the S/C to help out. They go 0-100 mph in .7 seconds......

My car doesn't have a turbo. And if they "must" leave the NA route why not superchargers. So then there wouldn't be any turbo lag.

Because S/Cs don't get great gas mileage and turbo's will make more/better power in the long run. Turbo's aren't that hard on the engine as well. Put a turbo on a Vette and a S/C on the same identical one....see which will make more, usable power while you mod each one to the max. The turbo will of course be faster and make more power. When have you seen a Supra making a 8/9/10 sec pass on a S/C? Never. When have you seen a Civic making a retarded amount of HP while it is weighing under 2500lbs with a S/C? Never.

As the way this world is getting now, they are wanting to go away from big N/A and big S/C engines. People want the same amount of performance while getting better MPG. Did you know the new C7 Vette is suppose to get a 5.5l instead of the impressive 6.2 while being just as fast and the 6.2 while getting better gas mileage? There are even talks of a turbo charged version, with a smaller engine of course.

I would love to have my N/A GTO back some day......so I can TT it and make it a beast while getting the same gas mileage, if not better, if it was stock!

Ok, I'll put in my 2c.

I think BMW went the turbo route not because it produces peak power, but because of a combination of emissions and usable power band. That said, superchargers, although they don't give quite as high peak power, give plenty of usable power down low (which is where most drivers use it). The problem with superchargers is that most run off of the accessory pulleys, which inherently rob some power from the engine just to run the s/c. Also, it's more difficult to cool the intake charge from the s/c as well, especially since most auto manufacturers use a Magnussen/Eaton type blower, which is basically bolted directly to the intake manifold. Plus, the hardware is generally larger and heavier. The current S4 is a perfect example of how modern superchargers are making great usable power and giving BMW a run for its money.

Disclaimer. I did drive a Jackson Racing supercharged Integra GSR for many years. Great usable power in the entire power band, near instantaneous throttle response, no boost lag at all, and near stock mileage (as long as you stayed out of boost).
