This caught my attention:

Also saw a local-ish Estoril M3/4/5 go for $8200

General rule of thumb for the e36....if you don't pay $10k for it then you'll most likely end up paying to get it up to there and possibly more. It's just a general rule and not for every single e36 out there. I searched for 2 years and unless you want to take risk and do ALL the work yourself, then the rule sticks pretty well.

nice car--no sunroof is more valuable and no power seats make it a lighter track car.

that said, his maintenance could be better--by now, just by age, he should have changed the radiator, water pump, and belts/hoses. not sure he did any of this.

but what an amazing choice!

Hate those guys. On one hand, they have such amazingly clean car. On the other hand, their prices are borderline mental. Plus personally, I don't believe in buying cars with no miles. I prefer have the previous owner/s to have taken the depreciation but still taken care of the car.

P.S. Really been toying around the idea of finding an Estoril M3/4/5...

Yea those guys are interesting. I've seen "decent" pricing from time to time on some of their cars. For me I like how I'll know the car has been taken care of mechanically and you know you're not buying some salvage or that's been in a "minor fender bender". E36 territory you face the car being trashed and ruin and at least they'll give you clean examples. Some are too low of mileage but I'm sure a lot of people wouldn't mind that

There's obviously a market for it, but I'm definitely not someone that's going to drop $60,000 on an E39 M5. With the E36, you are right. most cars out there will need something. But at the same time, it doesn't cost $10k on top of price of the car to bring an E36 back up to speed

They do have some nice eye candy though.

If you're referring to my rule I posted it's 10k total not additional to what you paid

Oh I know. I just meant it's hard for me to justify the $20k+ they want for that one E36, even if it's a time capsule. Just thinking out loud haha.

Hard to find an E36 in one of the bright colors though.

oh definitely i'm the same way. it's really hard to justify especially when you can get an e46 m3 for that price in pretty good condition too, but to each their own. just beware...it will take a considerable amount of time to find the right one or at least it did for me. i just got lucky with the bright color

Hm, I'm not sure how much ''better'' that is considering it has more miles and is an extra $8000. The interior does look to be in mint condition which is awesome though!

BUT I still love the lines of the E36 and might find an excuse to have one in my stable. Maybe with an LSx so it does not overlap my E36/7 drivetrain.
Get one with an S54, or get an S54 roady. Problem solved.

The M cars they sell are the cream of the crop. Mint condition as possible with no mechanical or vehicle history problems. It definitely is better but how much is up to the buyer.

When I said similar, I meant BMW I6, the S54 is not so different from the S52 until you get past 4k rpms.

I would only have an S54 car if it spent some time with MaxPsi and came home with their turbo kit. Speaking to Mike, the dream would be an E46 6mt wagon done up as an M3(fender flares and all) with a turbo'd S54. Now THAT is yummy.

Since when did you want a wagon? You should probably go back to Bimmerforums and confess your love for Coupes. I think Ghery's coupe is turbo/supercharged S54 - that was my dream.

Might as well bump this thread. I went to the track with my E92 M3 the other month and was hooked. However, I realized that the car is just way too much for a beginner like me, not to mention the cost of tracking that thing was just too high.

So I began looking for a higher mileage E46 M3 or a nice E36 M3. E36 won because it was more different to my E92 than the E46 is. Not to mention the cost of running is much cheaper too.

So I'd like to introduce my 99 Techno Violet coupe. Tons of mods already done (brakes, suspension, bushings) and the cooling system has also been taken care of. I do need to do a few cosmetic things to it but otherwise, she's in great shape. The shifter is too sloppy though, have to fix that.

And I just couldn't resist getting these locally. 3 days into the ownership and already there are parts coming in

Let's turn this into the E36 M3 owner's thread! I'd love to see what some of you guys have. I just cannot stop driving this thing, it's so much fun.

Awesome!! great choice, it really is a super fun car to drive. Feel free to PM with questions. At this point I've owned mine for 5 years and have pretty much pulled every bolt on the car.
