Anyone dyno JB4 Map 8 yet?

Just what the title question says. Map 8 is pretty fun and interesting. No more wooshing turbo noise, much less power, but the exhaust sounds pretty crazy. I haven't confirmed if there are any actual fuel economy benefits to it because I like to gun it in map 8 anyway because it's actually really fun NOT getting to 80+ mph in mere seconds. But I'm interested in what kind of power map 8 actually puts down.

It feels faster than my sister's IS 250 (200 hp, 190 ft lbs), but then again I have an intake and catback exhaust that might be helping the engine chug along. Also, it would definitely be interesting to compare to the power the 128i makes to see if the only difference is really in the turbos or if there is more going on in there.

So yeah, any map 8 dyno graphs to share? I haven't found anything in the search, just a couple 335i guys who claim to have gotten much better fuel economy with that map. Also, I know it's probably not on most people's lists of things to do, but I can hope, can't I?

Nobody bothered to dyno map 8? I mean, I guess I can't complain since I'm not going out and doing it either.

BUT I brought the car to the dealership today and noticed this after taking a pic of my mileage:

This is AFTER I began noticing that my fuel economy was dropping into the 18's likely due to carbon buildup from my previous 20-21 mpg with mixed driving. I had reset the mpg calculator about a week ago and have since been driving with the turbos both on and off, same driving style as always. I forgot that I even bothered with the mpg calculator until I noticed this pretty big bump! Would be cool to know how much power is lower in exchange for the economy. Pretty nice.

I should be doing some dyno runs at my brother's automotive school tomorrow. If I do get a chance to, I will get a dyno of Map 8.

I am nowhere near stock though.

I'd think the higher compression would help the N52 make more N/A power

Didn't I read somewhere where they ran mid to high 14s in map 8?

Any word on this? If not, don't worry about it. Like I said, it's not like I'm going out and dynoing this either.

That's entirely possible! I'm just curious to find out.

I'll try and search for that! Though... I can understand having a dyno run with map 8, but I can't really seem to fathom paying (time and money) for a drag run especially on some of the more crowded tracks. But mid to high 14... A friend's stock nissan maxima ran around that haha.

My brother said his class isn't doing those for the time being. As soon as they start doing Dyno classes, I can take my car in to run it.

(One Year Later)

I don't have the dyno sheets scanned but I can tell you that when I was FBO I did 183whp on Map 8. I forgot to update this long ago.

Haha wow, dude! How the hell did you manage to post this exactly 1 year after your last post!?

And that's interesting... 183 whp. That's less than I've seen stock 128i's dyno at, so I wonder if without the tune some of the mods are actually worse for power?

Thank you for posting!

Merely coincidental. Haha.
I noticed someone asking for Map 8 dynos on another forum and then googled to see if anyone had posted any. The only website I found was this one, which I had posted that I was supposed to report results. (I forgot all about this thread)
Oh, and I did my dyno in 3rd gear because 4th resulted in a VERY long pull the first time I did it.

That day I did 423whp in Map 3.

P.S. After doing over 60000 miles in my 135i and now over 45000 miles in the 1M. I have concluded (at least in my own cars and style of driving) that Map 8 does NOT help with fuel savings. I've done many 320 mile (tank full) trips with it entirely on Map 8 and did not notice any difference than with the turbo maps.

Why would car manufacturers add turbos for fuel economy? Because the turbos save fuel. It's just up to the driver to not have a lead foot. (I'm guilty as well!)

It doesn't surprise me that our N54/N55 make less power without turbo than the 128i. Very cool to know the numbers though, thanks for sharing!

Thanks for the info...I am thinking about getting a jb4 and part of the reason was to utilize map 8 for some longer work related road trips. Seems like map 8 wouldnt really help with mpg but youre right i guess it comes down to the drivers foot!
