Feedback on MPPK for 6-MT?

Curious if anyone has any feedback on the M-Performance Power Kit on a 6-speed manual transmission?

I suspect that the MPPK was designed with the AT in mind - and, if this is true, I wonder if MT-equipped F30s receive only a fractional benefit from the kit?

If you have a MT vehicle with the MPPK (especially if you installed it after the initial purchase), how impressed have you been with it on a scale of 1-10 ... and why?

there's a huge thread on it in the power mods section...

Added the MPPK at the 13k mark on my 6pd 335.

Am happy with it as the comfort mode is a bit sportier out of the gate. Can definitely feel the additional pull for the revised torque numbers. I don't usually shift to sport, sport+ until my cars warmed up so the additional kick in comfort makes that mode tolerable.

Currently have winter tires mounted so I haven't been able to drive it like I would like. The exhaust sound is also more pronounced at speed (either that or I have a whole in my exhaust).

I've asked this a couple times on other threads, but haven't gotten any response, so here goes again. Does anyone know what accounts for the torque difference between the AT and MT versions of the MPPK? Thanks.

This typically happens because the MT can't handle the torque has reliably as the AT can and BMW didn't want to spend the R&D money and time to make it hold up to the increased torque to their standards.

Don't quote me on this but I'd imagine it gives the clutch issues, so the MT gets a detuned version.

Thanks fecurtis. So would this mean that other tunes, like JB4, would be troublesome (or possibly dangerous?) with a MT?

My 6MT is getting the MPPK on Tuesday. I also read the clutch was the reason for the lower torque for the MT somewhere. Can't specifically remember where, of course. I'll let you know how it goes if you don't get more replies in the mean time.

why wouldn't the MT be able to handle the torque? Does this mean the MT can barely handle the standard amount of torque of the 335/435i? It's not like the MPPK adds 100 lbs-ft of torque.

This is the first time I've ever heard a mention of the 6MT's clutch being an issue. On the contrary after searching some threads, the 8AT's torque rating has been called into question and there was a report of the transmission slipping after mods. I don't think anyone has to worry. On the E90s at least, the clutch was very stout. There's no reason to believe the F30 is any different, if at all.

Hmm I doubt the clutch is the real issue. That would be pretty weak engineering on their end putting in a clutch so close to the upper tolerance of max torque it can handle . Hell the clutch on my old E46 330 is still going strong at 190k miles...

BMW has a long standing history of having bulletproof MTs, e36 ZFs, originally rated for ~250NM of torque has been able to support double that. Same with getrag 265s and the 6spd ZF from e46/e39m5s...

FWIW The old PPK de-rated torque on MT's. My 135IS 6MT has the same rated HP but less rated torque than the DCT. Ordered the 435 MPPK with an 8 speed so never looked into it.

So I picked up my car after the MPPK install on Wednesday after work. It was a short drive home, so I got limited seat time. I've worked every day since. And every time I have driven to and from work, it has been raining, or there has been heavy traffic, or both . So, I've put on over 200 miles since the install, but haven't had much chance to explore the new feel of the car. And since it's been raining at all the wrong times, I haven't even been able to roll the windows down to hear the exhaust. I do have the MPE, but can't really hear that much with the windows up, especially with the rain pounding on the windows.

My F32 was built in February of this year. When I picked it up, the first thing I noticed was the steering in Comfort mode felt like the old Sport mode. And the feel of the steering in Sport now feels like the old Sport +. I was under the assumption that since my car was so new, it would not need updated software in addition to the MPPK. I know there has been a good deal of back and forth on here about the MPPK being the cause of the change in steering feel as opposed to the DME update. I personally belong to the camp that believes the changed steering feel is due to a DME update, not the MPPK, due to the fact that BMW says nothing about this when promoting the MPPK. Either way though, between the time I dropped off the car and when I picked it up, there has definitely been a change. Why? I cannot say for sure.

My Sport Displays now read 400/400. And some of my settings needed to be reset, some did not. It seemed pretty random.

(Side note: The track number from my IPod that used to be displayed on the I-Drive screen --in the little box that shows time and signal strength-- is no longer there after the update. Anyone else experience this?)

On my short, dry, drive home from the dearlership, I didn't notice any real change in throttle response in comfort mode. I don't normally use comfort anyway, so I really don't care. In sport mode, I noticed a subtle increase in throttle response. What seemed to stick out more to me was the engine seemed more free revving. There was a small, subtle increase in power and acceleration compared to pre-tune. Two cars ago, I got a Dinan Stage II tune on my 135i. That was very noticable (and awesome). This is not that at all. And I know it is not meant to be, and it is not, therefore, what I was expecting.

I was hoping for a little more than what I have seen so far though. But lots of guys have said it takes a while for the tune to "break in." So I'm going to give it some more time before I pass judgement one way or the other. Maybe some more miles will change things. And maybe some time behind the wheel when it is not raining will give me a chance to see things more clearly.

And hopefully I will be able to hear more sweet burble action soon, or possibly a little woosh from up front. So far I've been unable to notice any change in sound from either end of the car. I've read countless posts about people loving their MPPK + MPE combo. I've got it and I want it.

Hopefully more to follow?
