Your thoughts on Audio Upgrade...

My current set up:
Base system with a JL 250/1 amp and JL 250 subwoofer.

All my other speakers are OEM at the moment and wanted to upgrade these as a next step. Budget is around £350.

I've had a look at MB Quart QM200 which is at £350 and includes:

2 x 217mm Polycone Bass Woofers with Neodymium Magnet
2 x 25mm Silkdome Tweeters
2 x 118mm Polycone Midrange Speakers
2 x Crossovers

I've had a thorough read through http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=343673
which is a brilliant read! However I can't see any pricing and also what's available in UK rather than USA!

I'm interested in a plug n play option, hence why I'm leaning towards the MB Quarts.

For the budget I have, would you say this is the best option? Or should I consider alternatives?

Gladens are another good alternative 3 way system, all plug and play.

Logic 7 tweeters and mids which slot straight in.

Earthquake SWS8 subs to replace BMW floor subs.

All powered by a beefy amp, crossed over properly would sound great.

Look up monster audio design - gladen kits available from them - PnP as well if that helps.

Thanks guys...now it looks like am falling towards the Gladen kits

I'm not too technical when it comes to car audio, will my amp be ok to run my subwoofer and the Gladen kit or will I require a new amp to for these?

On a budget of 350 the MB will not disappoint if you can get them. Although I can only see them for 430 everywhere right now. There was one on German e-bay a while ago for 280 which would leave a little bit for an amp. If the car is lease hire or on credit then consider a Technics harness. I would consider the Technics harness regardless as it is plug and play - no wires need to be cut.

Are you happy with the bass and just want decent detail up front? Then I would suggest this: http://www.focal.com/en/dedicated-dr...050750531.html

It's 230-250 leaving 100 to play with.

www.bladeice.com

Give Am a call on the above link. He's the official distributor of Gladen. You'll need another amp.

There is also a gladen harness that you can get... Similar to the technic harness. Only thing to notes as it doesnt have a remote on wire so you need to tap and run your own, or do a sensing on setup. Its easy enough. +1 for bladeice or monster for gladen kit

Initially I had wired my subwoofer to the speakers in the back seat, after reading a few posts on here...I re-wired them to the under seat subwoofers and OMG what a difference it has made to the subwoofers. Got more than enough bass now.

Now I don't think I need to upgrade the underseat subwoofers, so think I'll just go and get the Focal IFBMW-S from Car Audio Security tomorrow

Will I see much of an improvement without an additional amp?

Yes you will notice some difference but they need amping to bring out the best in them and running them off stock power for too long is not a good idea. You don't need a beefy amp for these; 2 x 50w RMS minimum will get them singing. Crystal clear highs and fluid mids - great plug and play. The main problem is the tweeters in the standard system are poor. Some have replaced the tweeters with hi-fi ones for a bit of improvement - some are happy and some go the whole hog. I don't think the Focals will let you down. Post back with your thoughts and photos once done. Ps. Worth adding some sound deadening too may be budget
£20 for a few sheets. Before you buy it check the depth as it fits the E90.

Interesting subject I'm looking at doing something re the sounds on mine in the very near future once all the outside mods are complete looking perhaps for something a little more upmarket from the Alpine offering(nothing tong with this as it offers a great plug play solution) but I think there's something a little better out there I'm running a standard Nav Pro CCC set up now and know that can be improved upon but where to go money wise up to say £800.

Have another thread going on tech section re this very subject but I'm out of my comfort zone re sounds TBH which makkan's kindly replied to re his thoughts

The gladen speaker set, mosconi 120.4 package from monster audio ticks a lot of boxes for you and with the mosconi quad cable, 4awg cabling kit and some sound deadening will stand you at around £700-£750 depending on the amp you choose, DSP or non DSP. Fit it yourself (allow a couple of days to do it properly) and you're on budget. That'll give replacement front speakers including tweeters, new under seat 8" ers and the amp fits in the boot under the tool tray (e91, not sure about others so check) so is nice and stealthy.
