BMW/Mini Does Poor in Recent Reliability Reviews

Check it. BMW and Mini have dropped to well below average in the industry.

Don't know quite what to think of this. I hear MANY people on this forum give Chevy ish because of their poor reliability, but they've now passed BMW.

Best regards,
Spec

Well at least my 328i wins SOMETHING . . . maybe the board will start to respect them more (not that I'm holding my breath) . . .

Best regards,

It is not a surprise to me. Japanese took the first 7 spots and only 1 German, Korean and US car companies are in the top 10. The surprising part is Porsche is the only German car company in the top 10. What is wrong with other German car companies?

I think a lot of this has to do with what people expect from a car. Look at the companies and there is a trend for the "worst model" to be a more expensive car compared to "best model. For example:

Acura RL vs TL
BMW 535i vs. 328i
VW Touraeg vs. Golf
Volvo XC90 vs. S40

Nothing definite, but there is a trend I think. Probably many owners of cars that are made for transportation and not for enjoyment would take their car in over a little rattle, whereas a lot of people on these forums take it to the dealer for anything that does not sound or feel normal as should be the case.

Higher end models have consistently done worse in reliability issues then their smaller brethren. Look at the reliability of 7 series vs 3 series. The 7 series has always had a bigger share of electronic, engine, and drivetrain issues. This tends to be true with most companies, seeing as the higher end models have more gadgets and electronics built in.
