Price Question - New to BMW & Forum!

I test drove a 2007 335i coupe yesterday with 40K miles on it in San Diego. It has every available option/package, no warranty, and new tires. The condition was unreal from a cosmetic standpoint.

The guy wants 24,775 for the car. The lack of warranty scares me a bit, and want to have a mechanic check it out (Dealer or shop?). Is his price reasonable?

Thanks for any input! Been reading this forum as a non-member for months now, lots of good minds & posts here.

i would pass. Price seems reasonable. But it's a non CPO. Go with CPO.

Car has complete service history, all done at BMW dealer. The factory warranty ran out, and now its just a standard used car. Typically, when are the major services post 40k miles? It has had the HPFP recall performed and that part is still under warranty (as you all know).

define a major service?

as long as you keep up with the car, it should prove to be reliable.

expect a water pump failure some time (expensive fix, DIY if you can)

Depends on who you ask. BMW service schedules are based on the OBC. They say the tranny fluid, coolant, etc is lifetime or 100k, but a lot of guys here don't follow that. I follow the old school schedule, or just Bav Auto's maintenance schedule. http://www.bavauto.com/Assets/inst_pages/e90mc.pdf

Major service being: brakes, oil filter, tranny flush... those sort of things. I am new to this stuff. I am fairly confident in my own ability to fix things on my end. The car has not been driven hard from my understanding. What do you think of the price point?

I paid almost the exact same for the exact car you are looking at. No warranty, coupe, sport, premium, cold weather, 49K miles. I think I may have overpaid a bit but my color combo and options were the only car I was in the market for which obviuosly I eventually found.

I offered 23K, so I will see what he comes back with. The car is in immaculate shape. Should I take it to a local shop to have it inspected beforehand?

all easy on this car. i am against the tranny flush, but a lot of us are mixed on that one.

if you dont feel confident inspecting the car yourself, then yes. also be sure check for oil leaks around the valve cover, oil filter housing, etc..

How does the 335 hold up in the 70K+ miles range? i know its an open ended question, but I have a hard time believing the maintenance horror stories are true if you take good care of the car... I was thinking of taking a 4 or 5 year loan

Most have bailed by the time 70k miles rolled out, so there isn't much to go on. However, I have seen some forum members with over 90+ -100k and the vehicle is just fine.

Stop fretting since you've only posted five times. Try searching the forum for tidbits and chill.

I would only pay $24K if it were CPO. Look on the internet; lots of the same vehicle going for low $20s.

If I were you (IIWY) LOL... I would offer $20k since it is out of warranty to ensure that you have extra bucks to take care of anything that might emerge.

Then, negotiate upward, but don't go over $21-21.5K, and be prepared to walk...unless you are totally in love with it. Let him meet you halfway...

THEN, once you buy it ('cuz I know you will)...POST PICS! LOL.

GLWNP (good luck with your negotiations and purchase) (I am making up all of these acronyms, to speed up this message...you'll find a lot of that here)...J/K

$20 - $21 is certainly possible from a private seller but might be hard to find. I bought mine from a Honda dealer who had it serviced, inspected, fixed, new tires at the BMW dealer down the street, who also gave me the entire service history.

Seller just offered at 23,500 for the vehicle. Any last input before I make a decision here? I looked at ALL 335's across the nation (private party) and had trouble finding one at this price with cold, prem, sport, nav, adaptive cc, etc

I would take it for 23,500. Sounds like a very good deal to me.

depending on the production date of the car any CPO could expire within months. They only last 6 years. I have a 2007 and the CPO expires this August.
