BMW shift knobs photos.

Here are some pics and a few short comments about manual shifter knobs for my BMW e90.

1st one is the perforated knob.
2nd and 3rd pic shows the performance knob and the perforated knob together.
4th, 5th and 6th show the performance knob and stock knob next to each other.

The stock knob is horrible. The aftermarket knobs are shorter, and are more comfortable in your hand, plus they look better. Well worth the price. I also did the perforated brake handle upgrade at the same time and love the look.

I have an auto. But the few times I've driven my friends' 6 speed, I've found the stock knob to be comfortable. I agree that it's not the prettiest one, but it's ergonomics feel good.
Granted, I haven't tried using those other shift knobs...

I guess you have the modding virus as well. LOL. I finally sold the performance knob and boot. I doubt anyone wants to buy the stock knob so I'm note even going to try.

Are there much difference between the performance knob and the perforated knob?

I have the first one and love it! Didn't bother to sell the stock knob and boot too, guess no one wants it.

Yeah, so how is the performance knob compared to the perforated one? Looks like you settled on the perforated?

I love my E46 ZHP knob. The leather matches my M3 steering wheel perfectly.

I personally like the perforated knob in the first picture. It feels great in your hands and the leather boot is a higher quality leather than the stock boot so it looks great.

The performance knob has a nice feel with the Alcantara leather on it and it matches the iDrive knob so it looks great as well but, it just felt a little bit too small for me and I worried that it might slip out of my hands. Plus I felt that after a while the Alcantara leather would get dirty and wear quickly. It is a completely different look especially if you match it up with the Alcantara boot that it comes with.

The bottom line, it's personal preference but I really like the first knob.

I had the perforated knob (M-Sport knob) and I didn't like it. When using it with the Short Shift Kit from BMW, my palm got sore from the somewhat square shape of the knob combined with the added effort of shifting gears. When I replaced it with the BMW Performance knob, the problem disappeared.

Interesting, I have only had the M-Sport knob on my car for about 100 miles or so and had the performance knob on for two weeks. The M-Sport knob reminds of the Honda knob on my wife's 1994 Honda Accord but 100 times better. I also have the BMW short shift kit installed on my car and love the combination.

My performance knob is sold so I hope you're wrong and I don't regret it over time but at 100 miles I think I'm safe.. Gulp. Again, personal preference but so far I like the M-Sport knob and boot better with feel and shifting. If you are in San Jose, Ca and want to see mine, let me know. I think both knobs are great.

Hey guys,
Sorry to hijack but for those interested I have a perforated knob and boot combo for sale. They are barely used, no wear/scuffs. Unfortunately the boot has a small rip where it meets the knob (see pic) because when I searched the Forum everyone said to just pull the knob but failed to mention that the boot needed to be unclipped first... so the knob took a piece of boot with it and a tab almost broke.

Other than that it looks great and I drove like that just fine for a couple thousand miles. I am sure the boot can be mended/glued easily. If interested, PM me an offer. This same knob and boot from BMW are $150.

Ciao,

-Walter

Someone could piece together Walter's knob with my boot to make a complete package: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=417183
