Smile Lowering my e92 with H&R springs

Hi All,

I'm thinking of lowering my car with H&R springs and leave my current MSport suspension. I've had a look at essex_lad's thread:
http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=887059

I think that's a perfect drop, although I'm not sure if the drop on my car will be the same as he has a 325i and mine is a 320d (much difference in the weight of the engine?)

Can anyone recommend a good garage to put these on for me around Reading, West London, Farnborough area?

Will be buying the springs from:

I would guess that the 320d engine is lighter being only 4 cylinder so you may find your car sits a bit higher.

Yeah that's what I guessed...
But are diesel engines heavier than petrol in general?
Tbh even if it is higher than his I would still be happy enough as long as the front doesn't look like a 4x4 anymore

I think there the best option out there for the 320d coupe. I plan on buying the same springs just haven't got round to it yet.

Will you get it done yourself or use a garage?

They're a bit further than you may want to to travel, but I can thoroughly recommend these guys:

http://www.bromspecuk.com/

Fully BMW trained, great attitude and good labour rates.

I would be pretty certain in saying the 320d lump is heavier than a 325i!

However , there will be a different kit listed for the 320d?! Which will have the correct spring rates to compensate for the weight!

Swapping springs is easy, just remember, once swapped, make sure you get full 4 wheel alignment carried out !!

As above, because of the stupid space between the wheel and arch

Excuse the dirt on the car...almost impossible to keep the car clean these days

So I've spoken to Performance 3000 in Somerset. They can supply the H&R springs at £167 and fit for £125 including tracking etc, which I think is a good deal.

Just need to figure out when I could schedule a day trip to Somerset in between the xmas holidays

Great price on the fitting.

But i doubt they do a full 4 wheel alignment, which you should do. It normally costs around £100 for the alignment.

"This also includes 4 - wheel Laser alignment after the kit is fitted!"

That's what they said, but I will do a full 4 wheel alignment a couple of weeks after installing them once it has settled.

This is correct the springs need a while to settle and drop, also if done correctly the cast and camber settings shouldn't change, the £125 quoted is a not a bad price, there is a specialist near us that does 4 wheel alignment £38,
When I do springs I charge around £60
Unless it's an audi they are a pig to lower

I'm guessing that's £38/60 per corner, right?

What was the outcome of this? I'd like to know how they feel vs. M Sport & if the drop was as expected.

I went and had this installed yesterday at Performance3000 in Yeovil, top guys there!

Took them around 3 hours to fit, while I waited in their nice waiting room watching TopGear , they also offered to fit my Gloss Black grill for free as I travelled a long distance to them. Would definitely recommend them.

Not very happy with the drop at the front yet, but I'm sure it will be go much lower once settled.

I will post some pics and more feedback in a couple of days time once they have settled.
