Thanks, not passing comment on your abilities
Just that car forums are awash with Google experts these days.
Thanks for the honest appraisal.

I see Birds have some good deals, and a good rep on here.
With luck as mines a 2006 car maybe not a welded crownwheel either - who knows

There are only two authorized dealers in the USA for Quaife BMW ATB LSD's and we are one of them.

What is the "right' part you are looking for? There hasn't been once we don't have the application for your late model BMW 1, 3 or 5-series.

Mine was bolted, Birds did a top job.
Get the M3 subframe bushes whilst you are down there - and a rear bar at 20mm or so

Why would Birds send out anything? They'll simply install the Quaife unit on your car. AFAIK they have every model that you would need in stock.

I had mine installed at Birds too and was very satisfied with it - and still am right now. One of the best mods on my car.

His question was over a year ago But all the same I don't think it an unreasonable one. Birds might offer them on an exchange basis, if someone has the ability to fit them themselves.

Man I want one of these!!

I thought it was a pretty simple mod though. Is there still all this gubbins about the build dates and the crown wheel being bolted/welded that affect the diff and price for different build dates?

I found that AMD essex list E90 and E92 fitted for £1440 and they are just round the corner. I was hoping that it was just a part that would go straight on my E92. The car is even at the garage already.

Or is that too easy?

Nick, it's a bit more difficult to install than, say, a new set of headlights; I'm sure you probably realize this. In my case Birds already had a whole differential fitted up for me the day I had it done and it still took almost three hours. To do it from scratch, i.e., open the differential and replace the parts, is rather complicated if you're not extremely familiar with what's going on inside.

What happened with mine was, Birds took off all of the aerodynamic and heat shields from beneath the car. I don't recall whether they had to remove any of the exhaust. The three connections to the differential, the two axles and propeller shaft, were disconnected and the original 'pumpkin' was removed. Then the upgraded 'pumpkin' was installed. All of the other parts removed were returned to their original positions.

So, no it's not an easy task. But it's a worthwhile mod you'll enjoy all the while you're driving.

As for VA757bmw, it would be cost prohibitive for him to do an exchange with Birds since VA757bmw in in Virginia, USA.

Yes, the exhaust would need to come down for the final drive R&R.

Always been very interested in getting one of these but now I feel like I need one .

My car was registered in Dec 2006 so hopefully if I've read this thread correctly I'll have the bolted version. Maybe somebody can confirm this on here as I'm currently offshore so access to communications is limited.

Thanks for the excellent write up and all the information that has been brought to light over this thread.

My missus on the other hand might not be as grateful

Yes, your final drive is bolted regardless of transmission type.

Ha LOL.

I think this was the thread that started me off modding my 335i....

Went on a trackday to Donnington, Tony took me out in his car and that was that.

Where is Tony these days??

Yeah this thread really does provide a lot of information.

Not sure, his last post was over a year ago! Maybe he's left us
