i am planning to get the simota CF ( the copy version of the gruppe m )
or to get a drop in filter because i've tested the AFE on a 335i for a friend ans i was running an INJEN DCI both cars same setup DCI and COBB , the injen was faster and noticed difference but i dont want to get INJEN for the 1M because its very hard to install it and it needs a drilling to get it fitted on a 1 series N54

I have aFe drop in "dry" filter and I like it. I doubt there are any peak power gains. However, I think it contributed for a better breathing at the top end of revs where it matters more to me.

It seems to be doing the filtering job as good as the stock paper filter too and keeping the stock intake with its closed design is a preferance in my book.

I am pretty sure I have posted some pictures on one of my threads.

Peak power now comes at 6300rpm but I am not sure if the aFe does the same. That often means save a gear change on track.

I would go for a closed box AFE. or the stage 2 AFE at least:

You get alot of increased turbo sucking sounds with a DCI, debatable on performance, might even hurt. I went with an Injen on my 135 just because it looked cool.

AFE stage 2 sealed cold air intake. It's a clean install, fits very well and doesn't look out of place.

Mike do you advise customers to go with DCI or Inlets? If the latter, who do you pick for Inlets? I saw a couple of pissing contests on inlets on n54tech, and I can't figure out what the consensus is.

Performance wise, inlets for sure.
If you are only looking for sound and dont want to pay $500 in labor, DCI is the way to go.

I know they fight a lot about which one is thebest, we offer VRSF, MMP, Vargas and RB and never had a problem with any of these brands.
