Nitto NT-05 vs. Dunlop Z1 Star Specs

I'm looking to run 275/35R18 square on street & track. Once I get more track experience, I'll get some dedicated track rubber for these wheels.

From what I can tell, the NT05 should do better on track, while the Star Specs will be a bit more street friendly. Correct? Any other thoughts?

Other options I'm considering (note: Yokohama AD08 and Bridgestone RE11 aren't offered in this size, and I want something more aggressive than Michelin PSS):
  • Hankook R-S3
  • Falken RT-615
  • Kumho Ecsta XS

The RS3 might be best on track, but definitely wears the fastest of all 5 and wet performance isn't great. I've pretty much ruled out the Ecsta XS. I know least about the Falken RT615.

I don't have a good basis for comparison, but I just put the NT05s on an all square setup and tracked my car. All the instructor kept saying was how impressed he was with the tires.

Lol... like "your driving sucks but your tires are so good it doesn't even matter"!

I had the Kunhos and that tire is just horrible in the wet so if it rains you almost don't want to go out on a track day. I have the NT 05s as a street tire and I'm not overly impressed. I have used them on the track but it is night and day difference with the NT01s.

I have no experience with the NT05 but I have used the Z1 on my S2000. The Z1 has great dry grip and very good wet performance.

I've run NT05 in a staggered setup, and I was initially quite happy with them on the track. They wore nicely, and had good feel. Dry grip was fantastic, and while they were new, the wet grip wasn't all that bad (I was expecting much worse). One thing I did find was that after about 6 track days, it became harder and harder to get heat in the tire. The other advantage of these tires is that even through there are directional you can flip them (but only in the dry). I might try the RS-3, but depending on how they operate flipped, I may just go with another set.
