mod/tune suggestions for brand new 335is?
ive been lurking this website for years and have wanted a 335i for as long as i could remember,
i used to drive a 328i coupe LCI and picked up a brand new MY13 335is space grey/black anyways as of now i have roughly about $600 to spend on the car before i can get my hand on more money whatre you suggestions as to what i should do first, i was thinking a jb4, gloss black roof and badges, and next purchase springs and spacers? im open minded to anything and would love to hear your suggestions! |

Suspension first. Then wheels. But if I had 600 dollars to spend on my car right now, I would buy a FMIC.

Tune, intake, FMIC, Downpipes. Do some research on the golf tee mod (actuator plug).

Oh...forgot to mention. Go to the STETT website. They make a sick CAI for the N54 and brand new it costs 400. I have one now. Not installed yet though. They make a few other really nice things too.

Welcome!
The OpenFlash tablet is about $410 shipped. I love mine. Personally not a fan of changing the badges unless you're removing them entirely. But it's your car, so do what you like. I can't personally recommend springs alone. I had H&R lowering springs and hated them. They can work well when paired with a proper sport damper though. Cheers, Alex

Next: spacers and coilovers - 1700ish Next: DPs FMIC, charge pipe - 1500ish Next: Stock up on plugs, coils, coolant, oil changes - 500ish $5k will get your car (mostly) to it's full potential. Save up for failures when they say "fuck you" when you need warranty work, which will happen.

My first upgrade was an Active Autowerkes chargepipe and BOV lol. My 335 is my first turbocharged car, so I couldn't resist getting someting to her the *whoooshhh*. Then I got Intakes, VRSF FMIC, JB4, VRSF DPs, and VRSF Catback Exhaust. Have fun!

Although you can't do it for 600.00, I'd suggest good tires. Runflats blow. Aftermarket wheels and wider tires will get you set for when you decide to tune that baby (which needs to be sooner than later)

I believe they stop selling JB4 G5 non-ISO. Unless you go to different vendors other than Terry's.

That being said, I think the tune was a bit too volatile. That's just me, going by my butt dyno, and what I mean by volatile, is not as safe for the engine (I know I am totally talking out of my ass, and I also have no hard facts to back this claim up). Seemed like a bucking bronco at times, and while that's cool and all, I personally like a power delivery that I can predict. Another thing I dislike was taking shit apart to make my way to the DME box to install it. I don't know, it always made me feel....funny. In the end, the the Jb4 is awesome for what it is, a piggyback tune, but as far as PB's go, I would probably go with the Procede next time around. On to the Openflash - Easy to install, easy to custom tune. Now I may not know how to use this TunerPro software yet, but it's pretty awesome that the option is there, not to mention that people who do know how to do it, can custom tune and share those maps for free, which I am super excited for. The power delivery on Stage 1 is super smooth. I know exactly how it will feel when I floor it. Also the real time logging and data that is on the screen is awesome as fuck too, provided you have some way to mount it. (looks like the Cobb V3 is doing this as well, but for $900? balls...) Oh...and it is $400 - which is huge. All in all - I, and many others, think the Openflash is a huge step in the right direction for this platform. I personally think piggyback's are on their way out for the standard tuner. They'll still be around and supported for the heavily modded guys, but if you're going to do standard bolt ons, why spend more on something that does less?
