18" square set-up advice needed
I'm getting a square Winter set-up for my e93 so I can rotate and get a bit more out of the tires. Looking at 245/40-18s (either Michelin PA3s/PA4s/Dunlop M3s) on 18x8.5" VMR VB3s, but not sure what offset I need.
I see **********s sells the 8.5"s at ET20 and ET40, but it is unclear if either of these will fit the E93. Anyone else run this setup and can advise? (And better yet, show me some pictures of the 8.5s on the rear?) http://www.**********s.com/VMR-VB3-C...tal-Wheels.htm Thanks!

A 8.5 with a ET 20 would be super sunk in the rear, more so with the 40mm. I would get 18x10 +25 all around with 275/35/18. Even with that setup up the rear is a little too sunk for my tastes. You can run a 10-12mm spacer on top of that in the rear. If you have KW clubsports you're going to need a 5mm spacer to clear the coilover. If you're running a stock setup or springs, you're good to go.

I feel like 275 isn't the best width for a snow tire...
I also learned VMR stopped making the ET20s in 18s.. guess not enough M3 buyers were getting 18s. I'm hoping to find some Alufelgen CS7 or Sportline CS.16s in 18" that will work.

Should have specified that you were asking about a snow tire.
I know a lot of people run 4 OEM 18" front wheels for snows. I think 245 or 255 /40R18 might be a good square size

I like the idea of running 4 fronts OE 18s, but new they would cost quite a lot for a winter solution, and would require a lot of searching to find 4 used ones (that might be bent, damaged, etc).

I can offer a few other suggestions, have you looked at the winter tire stickey? There is some great info complied in there about winter setups. Also, you might consider ARC-8s. https://www.apexraceparts.com/ARC-8-...fset_p_56.html They have a good reputation on these forums for being a good strong wheel. Many on the forums use them at the track. They're light, strong, and reasonably priced, and you can get a square setup. I would look at these before I ran a set of reps. Hope this helps. |

Thanks for responses. The M is my daily, and I have perused the Winter thread. After speaking with **********s for a few days, it sounds like the only 18x8.5 ET20 wheel they have and sell in sets of 4 is the Miro 111, which I previously hadn't considered, but like in matte black now that I've seen a few pictures.
I don't think APEX offers the Arc wheel in smaller than 9.5" width, and the Miro set is less than $900, so I think I will go with that. Haven't seen any pictures of matte black 18s on an e93 M, but they sure look good in 20" with a drop! m w/ 20s: non-m with silver 19s:

I would get apex wheels in 18x9.5 square and run 245/40's or 255/40's.

The best thing would be to consult an offset calculator like this to compare stock to what you are proposing. Also you if you want a square set up, to make it look like OEM set up, you would need to have spacers in the back. I would aim to have the end result be as close to stock as possible if I was you. Both because I'm not into the hella flush look, but also, its even worse for winter tires since having tires pushed out too far means more crap on the sides of you car in bad weather.

Will these fit?
Was looking for a winter option for my e90 M3 with stock suspension when a friend mentioned he has the following setup from his old 535 in storage. He offered them to me for near nothing, but it is a 4 hour drive and I am not interested in the trip if they won't fit.
Wheels are 8.5X18 (et10 offset) with 245/40/18 winters mounted. Anyone know if these will these work as a square setup? Thanks! |
