I guess if you live in a small apartment and have no hobbies then, a wagon wouldn't be a benefit.
I'd rather pay for delivery 2-3 times a year when I need to carry something big, then to drive around in a empty wagon/SUV 95% of the time with nothing in the trunk. Plus, almost everything you've mentioned, I've purchased online and have it delivered to my house or directly to auto shop. And you can fit snowboards/skis with fold down rear seats.

I think the F31 looks the best

This is a great point. In my opinion, the enthusiasts that love wagons tend to prefer higher horsepower and RWD. I've been excited about the F31 for a really long time, but after driving both the 328 and 335, I'm now only considering the 335.

Of course you will run across a small sub-segment (mainly folks here!) who still appreciate the touring, but overall the design falls flat in the US.

Personally, I think the F31 looks decent enough, but I don't think I could bring myself to actually buy one. I actually think the 3er GT is a bit more stylish, while retaining all the functionality of a touring, plus giving you a substantial increase in rear legroom.
Wow, this is almost exactly how I feel. I remember when my parents transitioned out of their old 70s cars, we had a 75 Nova and a Maverick of who knows what year. We got an Escort station wagon and so did our neighbors, they were everywhere. It was as blah as blah could be. That is what is initally conjured in my mind when you start talking about these sorts of body styles.

I like them, but I don't want to drive one every day.

One could probably earn a PhD working to explain Americas sedan vs. wagon/hatchback mindset. I'm afraid its a terminal, cultural thing.

"It's ugly" is all it boils down to.

Everyone here feels this way until they own one, so usually forever. I never considered one until I found myself in a pinch for a DD (new sports car, winter approaching.) After living with a wagon for a short while, it was like I snapped out of some sort of brainwash trance. Now the thought of buying a sedan (or God forbid, an SUV) makes me grimace long and hard.

Why the hell did I ever even own a sedan? They're useless! OH CRAP, now I have virtually no new car buying options!!!
Ignorance is bliss they say.

Now that I drive a 'sedan', I wish I did not. It's too big for me especially when shoe horning it into my spot in the vile work car park. I should have held my horses and got another hatchback like a Mk7 Golf GTI or Mk7 Golf R. I got the BMW because I always wanted a BMW and thought, 'What the hell, I'll get one'. In fact, I got two and they are exactly the same. How mad is that? Eh?

Now, whilst writing this little piece, I've changed my mind again. I want a Porsche Cayman R as I don't need the space or want to carry my family around on their endless quests. Right, that's my next car. When? Soon I think. Decision made.

Your numbers will be skewed since a lot of wagon enthusiasts have lost interest in these forums since the F31 won't come to the US with a manual transmission. I'm trying to decide between an E91 manual or an A4 avant manual. I just never really liked the 'small' six 328 touring, I'd frankly rather have the N20.

I'm surprised there's any 'wagon stigma' left. Shouldn't everyone be shunning godawful SUVs that scream "kid hauler"? Wagons are barely a memory for most car shoppers in their 20s and 30s.

I think my generation (the ones in college and high school right now) are going to have a more favorable opinion of wagons. They don't have the soccer mom image like it did to our parents. I think the lasting opinions of our parents stems from just how (for lack of a better word) un-stylish the wagons of the 60s,70s, and 80's were.

It looks great, but as an American, I think station wagon. It doesn't matter how good it looks, or how practical it is- I think of Chevy Chase in the movie National Lampoon's Vacation... Having said that, keep in mind the US has such diverse geography, that you will see significant differences by region. Here in Florida, I hardly ever see all wheel drive or wagons, but when I go to Colorado I see many more of these vehicle types (usually with ski racks on top)...
