M4 exhaust rattles on cold start?

Has anyone noticed rattling from the exhaust during cold start that eventually goes away? If you've approached the dealer about this problem, what have they said?

I heard it at the dealer and it sounded like shit, but it went away after it warmed up. We will probably here more about it when it gets colder out.

didn't notice anything unusual myself, but as more people have their vehicles delivered maybe we'll get more feedback

///M exhaust bearings have loose tolerances until they gets some heat. Think of it as character, as the Luddites want raw, analog, gritty, real...etc.

If you read your User's manual, for sure somewhere it's explained about cold start and it's normal!
Here is what mentioned in M6 User's manual:

Warmup
During the engine warmup phase, the V8 highperformance
engine has a somewhat rougher
running behavior because of the emission controls.
When the engine is cold, the exhaust system has
a slightly metallic undertone due to the nature of
the system.

Thought for sure this would've been a Nullcheck thread?

Had this cold rattle on both my f30 335i. Stock and M performance exhausts rattle equally the same. Not sure what it is. Some have suggested that it is the exhaust flap (?). Nothing to do with the "M characteristic" (LOL! - good one). Never had it on my e92 M3. And definitely not the "V8 high performance" ... but nice marketing line from BMW.

I had a 2008 M5 for three years. The rattle from the M4 exhaust is different than a metallic undertone. My dealer listened to the rattle and concluded a new exhaust is necessary. For those interested, I will keep you posted on whether the new exhaust solves the problem.

This makes sense. I don't have any type of rattle on cold start up.

Not sure how bad it is, seems to be a brute force method and might not solve anything, maybe consider waiting a bit to see if others are noticing it before going down this path

From reading some of the exchanges on the M5 board, it seems he is highly suspected of being a troll who doesn't actually own any of these cars.

Strange enough the OP on this thread is very new to this forum. Kind of makes you wonder... doesn't it.

Back to the topic at hand, if this is a legitimate thread.

Don't worry about the exhaust rattling a little bit on cold start-up. It is not a problem and you'll wasting your time by getting it replaced. You don't want them touching your new car if there is not a real problem anyways.
