Cool New Carbon Wrapping Project: Mercedes C63 AMG

Hey;

Was just given the complete trim interior trim from a buddies C63 AMG. Wants it done in black carbon fiber cloth (no 3M DiNoc here).

So far, have applied carbon fiber cloth and first coat of resin. Parts in pictures below are at VERY early stage and still require trimming and alot of work before they are complete, but they're in process.

The one really cool thing I've tried and it's worked so far, is wrapping the 3 centre dash pieces (center air vents, radio surround, etc) is wrapping all 3 pieces using a single piece of cloth, so when they are complete, there will be one continuous weave through all 3 pieces....

Here are the first pictures (alomg with a couple of the interior before the process began.

Centre console wrapped as one piece.

Separated (still need to cut-out all the holes for the dials, etc):

Cup Holder:

Ashtray:

Shifter Surround + heater controls:

Door Trim:

Seat controls:

Still need to tackle the gauge surround (big black piece around speedo, tach, etc gauges) and he's pushing to get Steptronic paddles done too, but concerned about operational interference and functionality if its wrapped.

The pictures REALLY don't do the parts justice as they look really rough now, But I expect them to look real sweet when done (especially the centre control centre)

Cant wait to see it finished. Not a real fan of the new C class plastics. This should look good.

We carry carpet cleaner that should help lift those stains on the carpet. jk. I can't wait to see how it turns out. My gf has a C63 and carbon wrapped interior would look a lot better than the wood color it comes with. Good job so far

Finished trimming centre console sections.... think they came out pretty nice so far. need to be sanded and 3-4 more coats of resin before they're ready to be clear coated, so disregard finish @ this stage...

The "pink" carpet is actually "orangey" construction paper I use on the work table to protect it from resin (the spots you're referring to LOL). It gets changed regularly as I get to different stages and everytime before I wrap as you'll see from pictures below.....

Finally got the parts trimmed. Still need to wrap the outside vents and gauge surround which are being done after I post. Here are the pictures:

Looks good from a far, but since people will see it up close I think they will see all the imperfections. Kudos for trying though man. I would just save up for real carbon fiber interior pieces if you want them so bad. Part of the allure of carbon fiber is how much it cost.

Just wait! There will be no imperfections when complete. They will be at LEAST comparable to any commercially available pieces you could get; providing you could even get these pieces through commercial sources. You can get select pieces, but not all. These pieces are a long way from being done. Keep watching; had lots of doubters in the past when I posted CF DIYs but, some 400+ parts later I know that there will be no doubters when they're done!

Another thing to consider, is what appears to be waves in the weaves is actually bad reflections from poor lighting, curves (not readily visible for same reason) and most importantly uneven resin. Just as you see if you look at an object partially submerged; light is refracted due to the different densities and makes the object look crooked; same thing here, but even more pronounced because part is curved and the weave has natural high and low points. Once the additional resin is applied and the resin builds up and is sanded several times; these parts will transform...... sort of like the pictures below:

Or maybe this set:

Be patient my friend.......

Benz has a factory carbon fiber option for the c63. Swap it out.

Guess he didn't want to go that route... so does BMW, but I've wrapped hundreds of pieces for e46s and some e9x's. It's the option to decide what you want done, to your specifications and the specific pieces even if the factory doesn't have it. That's why I did mine initially and continue to do pieces to my car that aren't available as factory options.. For instance, none of the BMW parts I posted above are available as factory options in the configurations buddies wanted. You can't get blue... nor can you get complete armrest wraps.....for instance...wrapping your own pieces gives you options....
