The reason is that north american buyers are idiots. They keep on buying useless SUVs like the X5-X5-X3 etc...SUV which are useless i.e high fuel consumption, no towing capacity, not safer than a car. Let's be honest most SUV owners are posers. Americans think that HB-Wagons are cheap since all they care about is their image(that's why most people hate on the new WRX STI etc). Sadly we'll never get the M5 touring nor 335....as a matter of fact the E91 328 Touring is not a good seller and with all these BMW GT cars coming out I wouldnt be surprise if Bmw stop importing E91(or its successor) to the US.
People are making all kind of excuses in order to buy SUVs...strollers do fit in the back of a Yaris or Matrix. Hell a mazda 3 can haul more stuff than an X3.

It really pisses me off...Audi canned the B8 S4 Avant for north america, Legacy 2.5 GT didn't last long, no 335 Touring.
I dont have a family but if I need a truck I would buy a really 1500 series truck not a car based fake SUV. I hope that gas prices increase in the next few years so that people start looking at smaller wagons so I can my hands on a nice 335I Touring OR 335D Touring. An E91 M3 would be my ultimate car...that thing would be the ultimate sleeper along with increased chassis rigidity since we all know that Hb-Wagons are stronger.

One beautiful car. I miss the rails though.. I think e91 should have rails... then again I'm scandinavian and used to skiguards and packlines...

I think this car is a beut... but I'm not sure if i like the perf front better than the M-sport.

Nothing more sexy than a m-sport front on e90 + 91 and carbon splitters...

See there is a lot of discussion about North America and e91's. Here in Norway most people buy stationwagons...

The SUV prices here are sick due to taxes....

On question for you americans.... Why isn't diesel more common? Here in Norway most cars bought new are diesels.... Due to prices, pollution and power...

One chip (800$) and I have 215hp in my 320d..... I love it!!!

I think the M-sport front and rear are better than this one, otherwise, pure gold!

Couple of reasons. Most of them currently have to do with CARB, the California Air Resources Board. To sell in California, you have to get their approval, and they are very tough on diesels - they worry more about particulate emissions more than CO2 or fuel economy. California is the biggest auto market in the USA, so they often are a de facto national standard, unfortunately for the rest of us in the country.

Another reason: A bunch of American manufacturers tried to go diesel in the late '70s/early '80s. They really did it badly. The engines were not the best, and the dealers were not trained to maintain/repair them properly. Diesels got a black eye because of it.

The Obama Administration is really pushing manufacturers to move to electric vehicles over diesels. (Probably because no American manufacturer makes diesels for anything other than trucks in the US market.)

Finally, the price of diesel was higher than regular gasoline for a while. Recently, the prices have more or less equalized in most markets, but that made the 'payback' time for buying a diesel versus a gasoline engine longer (especially considering cars with diesel engines often cost more than equivalent gasoline engines to begin with.)

The diesel here in northern Europe is cheaper than gasoline. And we pay less road taxes if our cars have particle filters ( the 320d e9x has)
There is no soot from these new diesel engines... if I put my finger inside my exhaust it gets out clean.. Quite different from my 2003 mod audi a4 avant without particle filter....
