If you don't already have a Flickr account, or some equivalent, consider starting one to show your best shots. You can keep the family shots private, but then there's a free app so that you always have them on your smartphone.

Since your wife is into it also, you could plan some trips around photography. My wife isn't interested for herself, only the results, but she tolerates my photo-adventure that I try to weave into most of our trips. I make a vanity book for any significant trip, which the wife loves. Yours might want to design the books.

I've got PhotoBucket. I'll definitely post up some pics and get some tips from you guys. This is the perfect all in one forum for me. Cars and photography. Can't ask for more.

I've made some books already. I've got books for my kids at 1 year old and the major vacations. My wife is too busy with the kids to sit down and put books together herself. I'm the one who tends to stay up late, only get 5 hours of sleep just so I can do my hobbies.

I'll be going to Vagas and Zion National Park in November. Hopefully I can snap some interesting pics. Too bad I can't take my Z with me over there and do a photoshoot.

Maybe I'll try to buy the D7000 before the trip. Perfect opportunity to shoot.

If you like jets, go over to the speedway and shoot the planes landing at Nellis AFB. Just stay on the speedway side shoulder and the MPs will leave you alone.

Looks like a 100-400mm would be ideal from those positions.

Yes, my shooting buddy rented one for the Giants last year and tried his luck with it at Crissy. Panning ability is the greatest problem as they are passing 1000' in front of you and are going at a good clip. This is where my 17 shot buffer gets abused fairly often and I see the limitations of a 40Ds AF speed.

Before I die, I hope to see a 500mm,5D while tooling around in a 335D "blind". Thanks to Dave for that idea.

The panning takes some practice, but you can zoom out to 300mm to make it more manageable while you're learning. Planes are actually much easier than birds because the directional changes are more linear.

The ole 500mm would be too much for that close. Of course, you can always locate further away and you might have an easier time claiming a prime spot.

Possibly a coupon for free parking at the Pier 39 garage. Bring a 4' ladder and you will be above everyone else, unless you have a truck.

my mom just decided to inform me that i really needed to have a moral standard, even if i don't agree with hers. my entire family are very devout protestants...and i'm decidedly atheist. but my latest video offended her so much that she felt it necessary to assume i have no morals. she told me that it was going to cost me business. especially since the song dropped the 'f' word.

Quad-core and higher processors help also, along with 64-bit OS.

Dropping more RAM in a 27" iMac is a piece of cake. Seriously. If you can insert an SD card into your camera, you can upgrade your RAM. It takes maybe 2 minutes. Go to crucial.com and run their Scanner program. It will scan your system and tell you what you have currently (including how many RAM chips and how many open slots you have) and then it will give you the options for various upgrades. I just picked a random 27" iMac and 8GB of RAM is $52. If you have a fairly new one, it should take 16GB.

Yeah, just remember next time you upgrade. For now just at another 4 or 8G of RAM, which will help a bunch. Later, when you replace the current computer, make sure you go to 64-bit and the best multi-core CPU that you can afford. It's the same on Mac and PC.

yeah, i'm aware. i've done it before. i've just not done it on mine yet, for some odd reason. it's brand new, so it'll take 8GB per slot with 4 slots.

...i did the best i could afford, especially since i have a 17" MBP as well. stepping up the processor speed on the iMac was costly. i got a 3.1GHz. I think the next available step up was 3.3 GHz, and i definitely dont have the funds for a Mac Pro. as far as 64-Bit goes...with OS X, you get what you get unless you get the Server version. I run most of my programs in 64 bit though.

Josh, I'm not sure what you mean here. OS X will run natively at 64-bit unless you install it on a 32-bit machine. Lion is 64-bit only.

Btw, for those upgrading Mac components, I highly recommend buying RAM, etc from macsales.com. They have excellent prices, products, and customer support.

that's what i'm saying, you don't choose between 32 bit or 64 bit on a mac, you get what you get. poorly worded.
