Will trade-in value be affected by having non-RFT tires?
Will probably be trading in my E90 335i Sport later this year. My summer tires are Potenza RE050A RunFlats, and they're currently down to the wear bars and need replacing. As the car comes stock with RFTs, I'm wondering: if I decide to go with non-RFTs, such as Michelin Super Sports, and then at some later point in time go to the dealer to do a trade-in, will that decision cost me more than I saved by not going with RFTs?
Or will it be a non-issue?.. like "tires are new this year... great!" |

When I traded in my old A4 it had jetta wheels with VW center caps and not a single fuck was given. Oh and one tire was also a different brand.

thew only place that might care is a BMW dealership. I doubt any others would care or even know it originally came with RFT.
Some might care about how much thread life it has left but trade ins is basically ymwv. Some dealers only ask what year and mileage and that's all they care about. |

Any used car sales manager at any new car dealership is going to notice. But he won't care because he is already making out like a bandit by trading your 3 series in for $5000 less than it retails for. These are late-model cars that either still have or just came off of warranty and included free factory maintenance. He has plenty of room to pay for new tires and he knows it. Most dealers will still put the car on the lot with your choice of rubber and only do anything about it if the next buyer notices and makes an issue of it. A BMW dealer is obligated to fit RFTs if they intend to CPO the car but I have seen that policy overlooked on many occasions.

Personally I'd pick up a set of gently used tires here on the forums or on craigslist. Good luck.

As far as I'm concerned - car should be worth MORE without RFT's

Your car is too old to be sold as a CPO, so even a BMW dealer shouldn't care as long as the tires are in decent shape.
Edit: OP already stated this... |

The only time they 'beat you up' regarding the condition of the car is if they putting your car on the lot and are not going to auction off your trade in...or you bitch about what they are going to give you on the 'trade in'. The 'trade in' is a made up number for the most part anyways... Either way it is unlikely they will care.
