I got my card notifying me of the recall a month ago. Still no update on parts availability.

If your car is acting really bad you have to bring it in immediately. At least that's what the letter said.

What exactly is the car doing?

Starting to stall a lot but what scares me the most is on the freeway, the engine will start stuttering and cut power. It's doing it every couple of days now and its to the point where I can't even drive while it's doing it.

I would def call the dealer and bring it in, or at least have the codes checked asap. Could be the fuel pump too come to think of it.

Would there be any tell tale signs of the fuel pump going out? I know on my old Audi the fuel pump would whine a bit.

Exactly what you are describing actually. Stalling, cutting power.
Afaik on our platform it's the high pressure fuel pump that has problems.
You need to have the codes read.

Mine is at the bmw dealer currently getting fixed, but the parts appear to be delayed (Southern California).

Anyone out there that has actually had the VANOS recall done?

I called Crevier about 2 weeks ago and they told me they had no parts to fix it. If I wanted I could try BMWNA but atm there is nothing going on.

Did you receive the letter to come in or did you go yourself?

I took it in to the dealer for service and they said they could take care of the recall as well. Just heard it will be ready tomorrow and getting the engine timed as well since it has to do with the valves.

WOW just got my car after the recall, with the engine re-time, the engine feels brand new, less turbo lag, super smooth, haven't taken it for a "real" ride yet, but so far, big smile

I wonder what they mean by 're-time'. AFAIK the dealer updates the car to the latest software and the VANOS bolts are just replaced, there is no re-timing of anything.

Which dealer did you go to?
