Garage List
In Sweden we usually say that the TT is a hairdressers car. Because it is something that looks sporty but drive like a station wagon.

Here that is said for a small low power convertible because its the choice of many gay hairdressers.

Surely on that kind of salary they're more likely to own a Miata than an Audi or BMW.

You don't know a lot of hairdressers do you? I know a couple that can afford more than an Audi or BMW.

Well, yeah. It's an expression with little basis in fact. Like how everyone says the Miata is a chick car when you typically see guys in their 50s and 60s driving them.

And really, as women are 51% of the world population, there's nothing that some of them aren't driving. I saw a pic of Jessica Simpson recently getting into her 997 turbo.

Regardless of what anyone can or can't afford, the comment is meant as an insult. It's like saying it's a sissy's car, not a "real man's car", and so on and so on. People will never run out of ways to denigrate someone else's car (or stereo, or house, or job, or body, etc, etc). Pretty silly, really. Says more about the person making the comment than anything else.
