Question Anybody's 3-series pull slight right on highways?

Just got my new 2011 and I am loving it.

I already put 700 miles on it since last week and I noticed that after I got back from a 300 mile round trip to Skaneateles, NY (great area BTW) that my car now pulls slight to the right at highway speeds and even at lower speeds on city roads....I kind of always have to have a bit of pressure on the wheel. Now by no means is this pull substantial, but if I were to let go of the wheel, it's initial move is straight, then the car seems to pull farther and farther to the right...The car only has 700 miles on it, and I am afraid to bring it to the dealer for the good will 2000 mile alignment in fear of them screwing it up worse or just telling me "it's normal" or getting the paperwork back after and it says "road tested and could not replicate the problem".

What do you guys think? will an alignment ruin my feel of this brand new car? Or is this quite normal? I had a 2008 328xi and I remember some times it would pull, but that was after about 15000 miles and I only had 2 alignments done on that car over 34,000 miles because of getting new tires. Also, on my old car, the tires weren't run-flats. ( I swithced them out after 15k)

Any input is greatly appreciated!

the road probably has a natural curve to the right to run off the rain. On a one way highway go on the leftmost lane and see if the car pulls to the left.

Its road crown.. The tight steering and chassis in BMWs tend to follow the curvature of the road. No such issue in Benz or Lexus since they both have numb steering and chassis setup that makes it feel as if you are floating on air.

I never noticed on my car until I got new tires last Friday. Now I notice the car seems to drift/pull slightly right. Cant tell yet if it is due to road camber or something tweaked on my alignment. I will be getting it checked tomorrow before heading up to Road America for BMWCCA Ofest this week so I will report back...

If part of the "pulling" is tramlining, then it is much more noticeable with the wider tires. That's probably why you notice a difference between the 328i and your car. The wide tires tend to follow the road. RFT stiff sidewalls don't exactly help, either. If you run narrower tires in winter (which you should), then you should notice a decrease in tramlining when the winter tires are on.

Some really good alignment shops can set your car up for road crown, if you want.

Check your tire pressure. Low tire will make that worse as well. So will those fat tires from the sport package. I find all the grooves from the big trucks in the spring when I pull of the winter tires.

Absolutely 100% true and correct. I put my stock all-seasons back on for winter, and the tramlining is much less prominent. After driving the car all winter and putting the summers back on, it does feel like something is "wrong" and takes some getting used to. Both summer and winter sets are RFT.

But do check your tire pressure anyway, it makes a difference. Don't trust the dealer checked or aired the tires correctly.

Got some pole position tires on my car which feel great as expected; finally moved away from local BMW dealer for alignment. It may be luck, but by car is straight as an arrow. It has changed my opinion since then. i was lucky to run into some friends who were "sticklers" to perfection. Go check out some alternate service shops.......
