Ambient lighting in black interior photos

When I was shopping for a 328 and debating on the interior color options, I really wanted to see how the ambient lighting showed up in a black interior. From what I recall searching the forums and the web, there aren't many pictures out there (and I know many others had the same question). Now that I've gotten my car, I thought I'd take a few interior shots at night in case some of you have the same question.

For those of you wondering about the door panel lighting, it is definitely a lot dimmer in a black interior than a beige or gray interior (I also have a beige interior F30). It looks a little brighter in the photos since I took these shots in a very dark parking lot. If you're driving around with street lamps, etc., it'll feel a bit dimmer. For reference, I set my interior lighting at the brightest level.

Otherwise, the brightness of the lighting is pretty accurate.

yeah my interior is beige and the lighting doesn't show up as well as in a black interior; those pictures look nice!

Oh, really? On our other car, the beige interior shows the ambient lighting extremely well (vs. in my black interior, it has to be much darker outside for the light to show on the leather).

Are you using classic mode or sport mode lighting?

He's in Classic. Sport uses the white LED's.

Classic seems way brighter for some reason. I keep mine in sport and the light is very subtle, barely noticeable.

Same, I tried sport (white) and I could barely see it in the dark against my black leather.

That's funny I came to the opposite conclusion. Sport seemed much, much brighter than classic.

Yeah, there are LEDs in the footwell. It's just that the floor mats and carpet are black too so you won't notice it unless you're wearing lighter colored shoes :/

The footwell lighting is actually not that bright on my car. It's only showing up more because I have plastic, clear generic floor mats that reflect the light. In the other F30 with beige interior we have, the footwell LEDs light up very nicely!

This is where I wish the Sport line trim had a light colored interior option for MY14. From the ordering guide, there will be a oyster/black two-tone option but that won't be available till March.

Which one could illuminate better ambient lighting: 63319353133 or 63319350967

Bro chuckles01 I have 2014 BMW 328i SULEV base line with Nav w/touch pad, Lighting package, Driver assistance package, black sensatec interior. However, on each door the ambient lighting are not bright at all. When compared with your photos, it's really a difference like night and day. I also attempted to check every LED module used in my car and they seemed to be using the latest module 63319353133. My question is what LED module you might be using in your car? Can you make sure whether it's 63319353133 or 63319350967? I kept on assuming that 63319350967 would illuminate better ambient lighting compared to 63319353133.
If any folks could help me that would be very helpful! Thanks guys.

I hate the fact that brightness of ambient lighting depends on the brightness of instrument cluster. I'd like the ambient to be more vivid, but it's comfortable for me when instrument cluster is only at 1/2 of maximum brightness or less. Ambient lighting is not that noticeable at these settings. It would be really convenient if ambient lighting settings were completely independent.

When I took those pics, my car was using the "older" led part number. I have since swapped out the led modules for the newer brighter ones. I say that because mine's a 2014 model and I know that from 2015 and on, BMW updated the door panel led part to be slightly brighter. There's an entire thread about this somewhere that I can't find right now, but I'll search some more and post the link later if I come across it.

I have not taken pictures of the new ambient light LEDs in my car, but they are definitely brighter than the older ones. With a black interior, you may only notice the difference between old and new LEDs if you sit in them back to back, since it's not as obvious.

You can code the brightness setting of the ambient lighting to be independent of the instrument cluster lighting. I had someone so this and it does help, since I don't like my instrument cluster on full brightness but I like the ambient lighting bright.

It seems like the LED part you have is 63319350967 from your picture. That's interesting, because when I swapped my LEDs out about 1.5 years ago, I switched mine to 63319353133 - that was the new one used in 2015 models and on at the time, and it was noticeably brighter than my old ones. At the time, I did not see a 63319350967 part number so it's possible this part is newer. Either that, or this part is specific to baseline cars where you cannot change the LED color (only orange). Ones where you can change between orange / white are probably a different part number.

Do you have a picture of this in your car at night?
