Comparison: X-Drive vs. RWD Suspension

Im still confused as to why X-Drive models cannot use RWD coilovers or springs and vise versa here is a side by side comparison of the spring and shock components everything looks identical to me.

Anyone want to chime in?

I cant find any reasonable explanation even on the e90 forums.

but what does that have to do with the struts and springs? Only thing you can change with a spring is the height , diameter , and spring rate. Clearly the height and diameter is the same on both models so I still cant see why coilovers wouldnt be compatible.
