500+ horsepower X6 50is!!!

So it's not an M X6, but a sport version. Take a look at this article from Edmund's Insideline: http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do...hotopanel..2.*

The 2008 BMW X6 50i has only been on the market for a few months now, but the 2010 BMW X6 50is is already in development. A more powerful version of the standard X6 50i, this high-performance SUV will be the first example of what BMW can do when it turns up the boost on its new twin-turbo V8.

Unlike BMW's sedans and coupes, which get the full Motorsport treatment, the X Series of SUVs has never received the official "M" badge. We expect that to continue with this X6, which will most likely wear the "is" suffix like the high-performance X5s that came before it.

Although most speculation has suggested that the X6 might one day feature the same V10 found in the current M5 sedan, these prototypes suggest otherwise. Not only do they not have the telltale whine of a typical V10, their instrument panels have the same 6,500-rpm redline as the standard X6 50i.

With that in mind, it's likely that this X6 will get the same 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 as the standard model. The difference is likely to come in the form of more boost for the turbos, a change that should yield at least another 50 horsepower, if not more.

Expect to see a more aggressive suspension setup as well, plus a few interior enhancements. There's usually a tire-and-brake upgrade, but these prototypes had what looked to be stock versions of each, so the standard units might be enough to handle this X6's additional power.

Expect to see official information on the high-performance 2010 BMW X6 50is by the end of the year, with sales beginning by the summer of 2009.

With the extra power bump, I'm assuming that 60 should come up in 4.3-4.6 seconds. Noice.

I wonder if BMW did this because of all the tuners out there ready to jump on the V8TT. I mean they've seen what has happened to the N54 and how much money they could have potentially made with their own performance line.

It also goes to show that all the warnings about upping the boost doesn't hold much water, of course it is a different engine so....

The X6is will be close to $100k too.

I think it has more to do with having a model that can compete with the Cayenne Turbo. The tuner market is insiginificant to BMW - I would say that less than 1% of X6 50i buyers will even think of tuning, and the percentage of 335 drivers who have done so is probably not much more. It might supprise you, but 90% of BMW drivers don't have a clue that this forum exists.

Bimmer, nice find...I just wish this was this was the engine in the current M3.....It would have been a torque beast....And in straightline, it would have no competition!

Hope it makes it in the next M3...lol

It looks like it has the new iDrive. Perhaps this is just standard X6 being tested with the new iDrive.

Indeed, the car has the new iDrive as shown in the pic. I hope they announce soon when will the iDrive make it into X6, along with the M sport package.

I agree.
I was thinking/feeling the same. The Cayenne Turbo has no competition from another SUV straight from the Dealer. The MERC AMG ML55 is a Beast but smaller than the Cayenne and the 4.8is just can not hold the Turbo Cayenne much less the Cayenne S Turbo! the new CAYENNE GTZ is the new puppy but till a Serious Performer for an +4000lb SUV. The new X6 50i is a direct threat and with a monster like this new X6 50is it will get Crazy in the SUV world in the comming years

BES335xi, I feel you. stay away if your scared.
The X6 with the sp pkg is a B E A S T on Handling.
comments like that are Spoken by those who have never driven an X6 and when they Finally do, they are without words! Simply in Awe!
The Size of the Tires on the Sp pkg provide Serious Grip and the suspension settings allow the X6 to Handle the Road Reminecent to the AWD KINGZ from Porsche, the new GTR, EVO's, STI's, Audi S4, etc,etc from a 4000+LB SUV so if your scared, do not push any of these HP SUV's.
I have a Porsche Cayenne with 22's 265/285-40-22 Now (until my X6 50i arrives in Oct) and I know that baby handles just as well as my AA SC E46 M3so my X6's 22's will have WIDER RUBBER so i will only Imagine 90 more days as to how she will Handle.... MmmmmMmmmmmMmmmmm.

+2 That would be BMW's answer to the Nissan GTR

Now all the E92 M3 needs after the TT option is an ALL WHEEL DRIVE option !!

With a little software tweaking the current X6 TT8 will produce 500hp.
