I may pay a bit more later, but I'll be in a better position financially and I can't see really needing one until mid- to late-spring.
I'm of 2 minds (really 3, but the saying doesn't go that way) on this scenerio. 1, you won't be shooting till late spring as you say, so there really is no point. And if it will be less financial burden at that point, then that's a huge bonus.

2, if you have the money now, it may be worth getting familiarized with the functions of the 7D asap so that when late spring rolls around you'll be comfortable and shooting the 7D like it's an old friend.

3, lots of cameras are to come out this year, may be worth waiting to see what else comes out. That being said, the more cameras that come out, the more deals you'll see on the 7D, so it also may be just as cheap in 2-3 months as it is now, maybe more. There's no predicting.

Canon just announced new rebates on the 7D, 5DII, and lenses. Pretty much just a continuation of the previous rebates.

Oops. You'll be back at it before you know it. I had my left shoulder replaced after a mountain bike crash and was back at it in a week. (I wasn't lugging around a 500mm back then).

Get well soon.

SmugMug Account

I don't think that I told you guys about my SmugMug Pro account that I set up last weekend. It's at:

http://davidcstephensphotography.smugmug.com/

Tweets and referrals are appreciated. My European friends seem spellbound by the Grand Canyon Gallery. I'm very happy with it myself. I was blessed with snow, which really made the canyon pop.

It came down to SM and Zenfolio for me. I prefered the SM layout and high quality printing options. It only took 4-hours for me to set up and I really like the look.

Thanks to rodi's photos in another thread, I forgot to mention this...

For those of you thinking about picking up the camera and shooting on V-day, this free, online workshop might be of interest to you. It is this Friday through Sunday.

they're also saying Canon has added f/8 autofocusing for the 1Dx - thought you might be interested in that.

I hope that's true. Buying a $7,000 camera and not being able to use it at f/8 (with a 2X TC on an f/4 lens) would be a constant thorn in the side. Trying to MF 1000mm is a bear and only really works if the bear isn't moving...
