My d5100 kit was advertised used, but was factory refurb. Came in a brown box, but the lens came in the retail box. I got a warranty card for both.

My refurbed 24-105 came in a white Canon logo'd box but it was clearly marked Refurb.

Refurbs have the 90 day warranty vs the 1 year. It isn't like they are producing junk but it does give me a warm fuzzy feeling to have a 1 year warranty.

But you a "dealer" aren't you ;-)
At least in Canon's eyes you are.
I have nothing against CL/POTN or refurbs.

I haven't flipped through this yet, but just FYI, this book for Kindle How to Create Stunning Digital Photography is free for another day, I think. Even if you learn nothing, you lose nothing. Except maybe time. I have several photography books I read on my laptop with Kindle for PC.

Nah. Kindle for PC or Mac. Read it right on your laptop.

I shall look into it some more. I'm of the old school and only starting to get out of paper

I have an e-book I purchased last year, and it reads almost all file types, so I haven't really paid much attention to who supports what format. and it leaves things pretty open to finding people uploading books all over the place on the net.

I have a Kindle on my Blackberry Playbook (only just remembered...) so it might be usefull for this

Variable? Do you mean a graduated ND filter?

EDIT: Oops, never mind. I just Googled it. Didn't know they had such things. Interesting.

EDIT(Part Deux): Yikes, they're pricey.

yeah, they are pricey. I want this one:
http://lightcraftworkshop.com/fader-...-hd-round.html

But, it's balls expensive... so I'm maybe leaning towards this one:
http://lightcraftworkshop.com/fader-nd-mk-ii.html

Unfortunately, I have no experience with that company, so I'm not sure how good they are.

Yeah, that's right up there with the Singh-Ray filters.

Product description on Amazon says, "with an ultimate range of ND2 to ND1000 (subject to focal length of the lens, normal usable range at ND 2 to ND400~450."

I'd investigate that more to make sure you're getting the usable range you need.

yeah Mark. The ND1000 is what's appealing to me. But, it would be nice to be able to adjust less than 10 stops on the fly.

I got a 67 and 77mm of these: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Fader-Variab...#ht_5511wt_952

Its still too cold outside to be able to find the opportunity to use them, but it's getting there. They are quality made. Cant wait to see some pics with all the waterfalls and rivers we have around here.
