I do not seem to have any good shots of the rear in my gallery. This car will likely be back here soon so I would be glad to take some pictures if you are looking to see something specific!

Thanks everyone!

This car looks amazing, wondering why i didn't see this earlier.

Want to ask if the H&R used on this car is the 1.2 or the 2.0 lowering kit?

Thanks for the reply, altho i'm actually shocked that this is the 1.2 kit as it looks very low.

The rear is set up for pictures only - that thing would not be drivable with lowering links set that low. The front is about right. The 1.2 kit looks good on the front.

Actually, the rear bump stops were trimmed to make for a more comfortable ride in the rear, so this car has been driven with the rear links set that low without rubbing issues.

GMP, can you elaborate on the bump stop trimming? such as how much was trimmed off? from the top or the bottom? Also does the trimming effect bump stop functionality?

I didn't mean that it was undrivable because of rubbing - Its based on my experience with lowering links - that thing would be bouncing all over and the driver and passengers would look like bobble heads.

But yes, please tell us how trimming the bump stops addresses this issue.

One of the issues with lowering the rear of the X5/X6 models is that the rear suspension will sit on the bump stops with the links lowered to a desirable look. This makes the rear end bounce all over the place because there is basically no suspension travel to cushion the bumps. Trimming the bump stop alleviates this situation as it allows for some more suspension movement, but is not a complete solution. The best option is just to raise the rear suspension.

Unfortunately, I do not have pictures of the ones that we trimmed, but there is an example of what they look like below (image is not an X5/X6 stop). They have "ridges" and we trimmed one ridge off of each side. We have done this on two X6 models with positive results.

Example of what they look like:

Interesting. Glad to see people are still working on solutions.

when you say that you trim one ridge off each side, do you just cut the ends off or do you slice it from the center? If it's the ends, aren't they shaped specifically to fit the area?

The X5/X6 is not the same shape as the one shown, maybe that was a bad example. Also, by each side I meant each side of the car. I am trying to find an image that better shows it.. but, no. The X5/X6 bump stop is flat on the bottom end, so you just slice off from there.

As far as how much to trim, I would just say try until you get to a point that is comfortable for you and your desired ride height. Worst case, it is an inexpensive part to replace. There are also shorter bump stops available out there, but likely nothing for the X5/X6.

I see what you mean now, it's a very cool idea and one that i haven't heard of, please post some pictures of them if you can find them, it would give us all a much better idea of how it works, thanks

It is a pretty old school idea, so we cannot take credit for it! It is simple, when you lower the suspension, the shock has less travel available, trimming the bump stop can increase that available travel.

All you do is slice off some of the foam bump stop, there really is not anything more to it.
