The only way to go.

I had the same basic system on my E46 and it works flawlessly. At the time it was the 8500 with the ZR3 installed in a stealth set up.

So what you're getting is even better.

Nice....

I had that in my 335. Works like a charm. They have a new Passport Qi45 that's supposed to be easier and cheaper to install. Not sure how great it would be w/o false signal detection.

can you hardwire install the 9500ix and hide it out of the way?

Yep. I even run mine when I'm in VA where they're illegal.

I will say that putting it up too high in the upper tint band will slow GPS aquisition time, but you don't have to move it down much to fix it.

It works great right here:

I have my 9500ix hard-wired high like jeremyc (but on the driver's side). Love it. See the How-to section.

Nobody can see it there, including cops that pull you over and parking-lot thieves.

With the auto-learn, it never goes off around town except for a cop. I drive by every shopping center and drug store dead silent. Today it picked up a highway cop around a bend, up a hill and behind a bridge. Not bad.

Do a search on radar detector here, there have been a few good debates in the last 2 years. No definite winners, only strong opinions.

The QI45 has no rear shifters. You would have to get the ZR4 shifters to get a set that includes rear shifters.

Two excellent choices are Escort and Valentine. Both have merits so do your research and either will be a good choice.

Me? I use the V1 and it has served me well. Its like my old yellow lab, always faithful. I am an arrow advocate for sure.

Mounting wise, upper left side of the mirror (suction cups and pre-wired) Wired to turn on when car is running, always on. Not in my line of vision yet visible. Can't use my visor but works for me.

If you live in a laser area, consider complimenting with Blinder. My son runs both on his EVO X because its a LE magnet. If we are running together they go after him and leave the "gentleman's" car alone - LOL.
