Misfires - consists of feeling the car shake, rev counter jumps up and down, hesitancy when revving and just general sluggish drive.

I know these are a bit over budget, but you can try haggling. I haven't looked at the specs but thats something you can decide Theres even a cheeky 6 pot there.
I've just had a look and most cars I can afford are 57 plates and I was hoping for something similar.

well you get what you pay for. how about a 60 reg plate 330i for 10k?? (we would all want that wouldn't we?) bmw are pricey for a reason and with all due respect the forum guys here has given you alot of feedback so stop being anal. Just don't come crying back if you do manage to buy one with loads of problem.

maybe you should stick with the clio's for the time being if you can't afford one.

Sorry, i thought your budget was £13.5k-14 ish?

Edit: does that link work for you guys? There should be 4 suitable cars at around £14.5k?

Insurance sucks being young I'm 21 and its about £1k for a e92 320d which I think is good considering its been closer to £2k when under 21

Go for it.

1. The car looks great. Best colour combination White and Red Leather & M Sport!
2. The problems everyone mentioned above are nothing (My bros 320i had exactly the same issues, coils misfire, spakrs, ecu programming update, and now is perfectly fine!)
3. Its super low miles which is almost like getting a new car.
4. Much less consumption than 325i 330i etc..
5. The 320d has more power but, has problems which are most costly to fix (x 3 the cost)
6. For 22 years of age, this would suit you great! (enough power, economy and looks!)

In my own opinion, I would say go for it!

Same with mine. 08 plate, all coils replaced under BMW recall and still misfires. Also recently needed the O2 sensor replaced.

You seem set on buying it though, just don't say no one warned you when it goes wrong

I brought my e92 320i Msport when I was 21 last year and yes I have replaced coils during that time but since then warranty has covered all the other bits and pieces although despite that I think it's a cracking car and I wouldn't change it until the 4 series comes along

It seems as though your mind is made up on the 320i and it doesn't really matter what others say. If you still want it - then go for it. It is an awesome car for a 21 year old.
The ticking noise is normal - something to do with the hydraulic lifters IIRC - so i wouldn't worry about it.
I would agree a price before going down - anything from there is a bonus.

Bear in mind if you buy that car, your spending 13 - 14k and its sold as seen. You have literally no comeback. I would have been screwed with my 320i if it was not for the warranty!!

You can get the BMW warranty after you purchase it as a none AUC - I've just done the same on my 330i!

So many people have said to avoid the 320i that I think you'd be a fool to ignore them.

It looks a lovely car and you're being seduced by that fact. However I reckon you'll regret it, so see sense and take the advice you've been given.

+1

OP, I know insurance is hard at your age but its SERIOUSLY worth holding out since you may just end up paying far more in repairs than insurance. Save up enough to buy a nice looking 325i if petrol is what you're after and you'll not regret it, plus it'll have noticeably more power behind it..

Looks are ALOT at that age but never more than safety and overally savings.. It's very hit and miss with the 320i and given so many knowledgeable members have advised you otherweise, I would realyl save up the money to buy a more reliable engine. You can use the extra money towards insurance / extended warranty and have peace of mind over constant worries over what may go wrong with the 320i. That's not to say they aren't good motors, but general consensus speaks for itself, just saying.

How about this one.

Then save up and get a leather interior of a breaker or eBay - they come up for sale regularly.

Look how many decent options you have for £14k roughly:

They are all SE versions so not likely to be as appealing to a 22 year oold as the one he is considering.

Maybe this would appeal to him.

like i said he wants the best of everything but doesn't have the dosh for it. it sorts of ruining all the hard effort of people saving up for their cars. my 335i cost alot but it wasn't until i was 23 i finally got my dream car !

That's where modding can help! Customise your car with the savings on an SE model yourself.

Plus i'm sure se suspension is more forgiving than m sport. You don't get that rock hard ride we all hear about.
