BMW 7th in reliablity

Just saw the new report from JD Power. BMW came in 7th, with Lexus coming in 1st again. Still not too bad! But Mercery and Buick better than bimmers? C'mon! Here's the top 10. The study was based on 3 years of ownership.

1. Lexus
2.Mercery
3.Cadillac
4.Toyota
5.Acura
6.Buick
7.BMW
8.Lincoln
9.Honda
10. Jaguar

Although it should be better than 7, these ratings are kinda skewed IMO. The electronics of a BMW are far more complex and integrated than a Buick or Mercury.

The electronics of the bimmers have always been their weak link IMO. Still better than buick or mercury, though.

As complex as some BMWs are, 7th isn't bad.

the full results were on the home page of msn.com if anyone wants to see the whole thing

I don't know how these ratings are filled... but I've had an 92 SC400 that was nearly flawless until about 200K miles; a 735i that was always blowing hot air and barely starting sometimes; a MB 300E that would shut down randomly (once in the fast lane on the freeway I might add)... and my 350Z which has been solid even with all the junk I put on it. Nissan isn't even top 10... but hopefully my new 335 will reflect it's rank.

It's a surprise that Mercedes didn't make the list.... generalizing all of the lineups of cars is pretty much meaningless. For example, MB makes some VERY reliable cars, but their SUVs are horrendous when it comes to reliability.

Seeing Mercury as #2 boggles my mind... this is quite difficult to digest....

I call shenanigans on this report. Seriously, it's BS.

The only way this report makes any sense is if they reported on total problems and not problems per x number of units. Bah!

Screw these reports. They're skewed because I'm sure that many people that fill out the survey slips are biased or just don't care and fill in all good or all bad.

Exactly my first thought on seeing the list. Whoever compiled the statistical data was smoking the ragweed.

I don't think BMW could beat Honda. I think the report has been played with.

There is no excuse for BMW not getting a higher rating - except poor quality. Why would anyone believe complex ____ (whatever) is an excuse for quality.

Hmm. I recently got rid of a Cadillac CTS-V for my 335. Not even close with the bimmer being much higher quality and much more reliable.
