Do I need to order Enhanced USB/BT?

Hi All,

I am in the final stages of ordering my 420d M Sport Coupe this week :-)
I will be ordering it with the Professional Media unit which I believe also includes the connected services (BMW Remote, Nav etc and Telematic services).

From what I have read on the forum already the Enhanced BT/USB option can be coded saving myself 350 quid, but can someone confirm this for me as I believe it varies depending on which region and the age of the car to whether it can be done.

I would like to know if it can be simply coded, if it requires extra modules to be retrofitted I think I'd rather just pay for the option.

(my first post btw )

Welcome to the forum!

You might not even need to do any coding depending on what features you want! F3x's with nav have BT streaming (with album art), full control of phone over USB (browse music library, album art etc)

So basically all features of EBT except Office and additional phone for BT calls, both of which can be coded if you really want them.

All EBT from factory adds is the connection for the snap in adapter under the arm rest, which requires an additional £100+ for the phone specific adapter, and all it adds over a USB cable is basically the use of the external aerial for phone reception, although many say it doesn't improve phone signal significantly, if at all.

Thanks for your response Teaston!

That is good news
I will be connecting my iPod video up via 30pin connector, will I still get full functionality out of the box then using just Professional Media? (i.e. Playlists, Searching, Track and Artwork display all via the iDrive)

Factory EBT also gives voice control over the car. This isn't anything that special and now the novelty has worn off I rarely use it.

Beware, older iPod designs don't always play to well with the iDrive. I have a 6 month old 160GB iPod Classic which kept crashing when connected to my iDrive. It needed unplugging and resetting to work again.

I've replaced this with a 128GB iPhone and so far have had no music playback issues.

I always listen music on full device shuffle, this may have been to much for the combination...

BMW doesn't fully support some non iOS Apple devices. From a computer check out the BMW compatibility page. It won't access from an iDevice.

Voice control doesn't require EBT now with Pro Nav

Nav cars come with full voice control since March!

I missed out by a few days!

As Rich says there are some compatibility issues with older iPods, but if it doesn't work without EBT it won't work with EBT either.

If I have to I can buy a newer iPod, I just need to be able to store all my songs (50GB), use the playlists and full control via iDrive.

I just want to make sure by not selecting this option I won't loose any functionality when using my iOS device

The upgrades to the standard bluetooth fit have rendered EBT the worst value option on the options list in my view.

Especially as the extra features can be coded in...

Non navigation cars do not (at the start of the year anyway) have the combox under the boot floor. So, this can not be coded to these cars.

Specifying EBT to my March 14 car added the combox, nothing in the pack was standard then. Knowing what I know now I would have spent £500 more, gone for basic Nav and coded EBT.

Does EBT support streaming from Spotify or Napster along with Album Art?

Can someone confirm whether the following features work out of the box or if they will require EBT/coding

1. iOS music playback (direct usb connection)
2. Full control via iDrive (browsing, music controls)
3. Searching for song/artist/album
4. Album art display

I have all the options including snap in adapter, which is the only one I don't use. Voice control is pretty good IMO.

I have however ditched Spotify and moved to Deezer since there is a dedicated app interface and it works seamlessly. (Tip from Teaston - thanks).

It has been confirmed by many on here that all those features work without adding or coding EBT since March built cars. As long as the phone/iPod is compatible.

If all those features are already enabled what do we gain from EBT either than the dock?

One more thing EBT (option 6NS) also adds is a 2nd microphone in the ceiling at the passenger side, I believe it has two purposes.

1) Improved noise cancelation of background noise by doing a diff between the two microphones.
2) Improved audio when passenger is speaking.

Unable to stream

HI guys,

Just had a 420d with pro media, but I can't seem to get it to play music over bluetooth from my phone.

I was told it should do it but when I pair the phone it only gives me the option to use it as a telephone...

Am I missing something here?

Thanks

Wes

Sorry just saw this - I mean there is no tie in between the bmw app and spotify like there is with Napster/Amazon Music and the connected drive app.
