First Look: Awron DGA Gauge for F8X M3/M4

Just arrived on Monday, installed today:

The Awron DGA Gauge is an all-in-one display unit that presents a wide array of real time data for the 3-Series & 4-Series. Featuring a sharp, full color OLED display, the Awron DGA gauge is easily controlled using the factory steering wheel buttons for on the fly commands. By replacing one of the factory air ducts the DGA gauge flows seamlessly with BMW's interior. Awron is also the supplier for Alpina, a respected name in the BMW community.

All Awron gauges ship expertly pre-assembled into an OEM air duct piece. The effect is stunning, creating an OEM look and feel that is hard to distinguish from BMW's own quality. The predominantly orange colors used in the display match the M3's gauges nicely. All data is selectable from your OEM steering wheel buttons in both German and English languages. Units can be switched from Imperial or Metric readings.

This All-in-1 gauge is the perfect option for track enthusiasts, street cars or for those just wanting to add some flair and functionality to the M3's interior. The included plug and play harness with BMW-type connectors make the job of installing this many gauges easier than ever.

Installation is about 1.5 hours. Once completed, the finish and quality look like it was offered from BMW.

The Awron units come pre-installed in the vent always closest to the driver. We'll have a DIY ready in a couple of days.

Especially when you factor in installation in the overall cost. A set of analog dial gauges can take over 5-6 hours to install cleanly, once you decide on a location for mounting.

Awron gauge displays are also upgradable as new features are released via the integrated USB port.

Today's cars are well-insulated and AC units are so efficient, this isn't a concern. Air is still directed towards the remaining vent.

Too bad it doesn't come as just software that will display on the iDrive screen. It seems to me this would be great for those without iDrive. Although in the case of the F8x, at least in the US, deleting iDrive is not an option. But I have been considering this for the E92 M3; it's a single humper.

Cheers.

Been driving it for the past couple of day in the heatwave we've been having here (~100F) and there no deterioration in cabin temperature as the air is simply redirected to the remaining vent.

Music is "Sky Trees", by Solar Fields

I mentioned this in the vendor thread for this thing, but I'll say here again since there's more traffic here.

The unit looks cool for sure, but the hijacking of the steering wheel buttons is what really excites me. I very badly would like to mute (or even fully control) a radar detector with the steering wheel.

And if the CAN bus can use steering wheel controls, can it input data as well. Say to the HUD? Freaking out about the thought of radar alerts in my HUD and muted by the wheel...

Feature updates are planned. The Awron has a integrated USB port for feature updates and/or compatibility releases as production changes.

Is orange the only color or can white (same as kombi color) be selected for all the display?

Orange is the standardized color for the displays, and very easy on the eyes during night driving. This also tends to match most BMW displays.

HVAC vent deletion okay?

I don't know if I agree with this. Just back from a road trip to Eastern Washington where temps were in the 100° range. I was barely comfortable with that vent blowing on me when sun was on my side of the car.

We're having a our own heatwave ourselves. Cabin cools down perfectly fine.

Its not like any of the remaining vents can't reach the driver, the cabin will still cool down just fine as there's plenty of airflow available.
