Ebay intercoolers...
Hi All,
Does anyone have any opinions about these types of intercooler or has anyone brought one. Are there any other options available at a reasonable price. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-135-13...50668419772%26 Thanks. |

Honestly they are brilliant. I fitted one to a guys 335 not long ago. The core is easily capable of the same if not more power than the forge one I have. Its build quality was top notch and the fit was perfect. It also has a venturi on each core bar which will help against turbulance.
I rate them up there with the better brand coolers that are double and triple the money. |

im looking at this one:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CXRacing-0...item20c0337849 quite large, but you can never have enough cooling :P little bit more expensive as the "kit" but you can buy the core on its own for around 170 delivered if you hunt about (the same core is used for RX7's for example, and that doesn't carry the BMW tax) |

Thanks for your feedback I think I may have to give it a go.
I did order a hybrid intercooler for my old Nissan 200SX back in 2005 which worked flawlessly until I sold the car last month so I know these things can be really good quality even though they don't have a brand name on them. |

I looked at these a couple of months ago but was suspicious due to the price. I could have asked here like you have just done.

The FMIC on my car cost less than £200 but it required custom pipework but was still well under £300 in total.
Most of these expensive intercoolers have their cores come from China anyway so I don't see any point in having a £500 one on mine. The standard intercooler is a piece of crap so this must be a major improvement over that anyway. |

Simple way to monitor the benefit is to fit a JB4 and log IATs and WGDC between standard and aftermarket. The IATs will show have much better it is at cooling and the WGDC will show any difference in pressure drop between them.

So isn't there a reputable dealer in the UK or even Europe selling a great quality upgrade intercooler for a reasonable price where we don't end up paying import duty and other government scam tax's?

No. Lol. Uk companies to be honest are either greedy pricks, or the are hit with so many taxes that thier prices are sky high aswell so it reflects our price as a buyer.
The only uk based company iv ever known not to create a huge margin of profit on thier products was JuicedUpTuning. Then again. Is that why they are gone? |

Is your car standard? If so it is unlikely you'll gain anything with just a better intercoooler. Any feeling of gain will come from more consistent running due to lower IATs. It is a supporting mod which will allow you to run a more powerful map.

end tank design doesnt look very fluid on the ams style intercooler above.
VRSF are decent intercoolers..but in the higher hp ranges, pressure drop can become an issue. Lower IATs are not everything... Pressure drop, air turbulence are just as important to consider |
