Alarm systems

I have a new F30 335i in Canada. Page 39 of the manual talks about an interior motion sensor. I haven't been able to get an alarm to go off with the doors locked and someone in the car waving their arm about. I am suspecting that this is another missing feature for us here in Canada. Can anyone verify if they have this feature on a Canadian version F30 335i?

Yes, 2012 335 and my 2011 X3 both have sensors inside. they go off when we leave the windows open and someone tries to reach for something inside, as soon as you put the hand inside, of course, the key can not be around at all! It has to be far away... I've only been able to make the alarm go off, and it was an accident lol... but that's how i found out..

However this may not be true for the Canadian spec 335i.

If I can remember to try this week I'll post back with the result but I can't imagine how you could be wrong.

That might be a good idea as a guide for other Canadian buyers/owners. But it's going to be a long thread.

Do you have a Alarm ?
According to the BMW Canada website you need premium package on the 335i to get the alarm

I have the Premium package, but I haven't tested this yet. I'll try this evening or tomorrow.

I have the premium package, and I am able to make the alarm go off by opening the locked car with the key in the door. However, I am wondering if I have the motion sensor since I locked my wife in the car, walked away to be out of range with the fob and asked her to move around in the car ... no alarm!

Ok, I think we then have 2 possibilities

1) The sensors hare covered and cannot see the car ( was so on some North American E90 )
2) The sensors have not been coded on

We need to look at the front interior light cluster on the roof. Where the Sunroof/SOS button is.
There should be 3 grills facing towards the back of the car.
This is where the sensors look out

Do you have the grills ?
Can you take a picture ?

If the sensors are there and the grills open, then they just have not been coded on.
The dealer can code them on

I'm interested in finding this out as my Canadian 335i with premium package arrives in about a month.

Thanks for the quick reply. You're the man!
Here is a picture. I do have the 3 vents and can see the sensors. I'll talk to the dealer to get them to code them on.

Yes, those are the sensors.

One last thing, was your person in the car absolutely still for a while after you locked it before they moved around to make the alarm go ?

Im just wondering if maybe the system detects movement within a few seconds of locking it deactivates the sensors ?

Also, were the windows closed when doing the test ?

I believe they were still for a few seconds before I told them to wave their arms, but I'll try again with a longer delay. Yes, windows were closed.

Once I get it working, I know how to deactivate it with the key fob.

Tried it today by leaning in the window and waving my arm around, but the alarm didn't go off. Maybe there is some conditional logic at work here, as suggested by E90Fleet.

Let us know what you find out Wild M.

EDIT: In fact the manual states "The windows and glass sunroof must be closed for the system to function properly". Therefore our test through an open window would probably never have worked because it reads as if the motion sensor might be disabled in that scenario.

My test was to have someone sit in the locked car with closed windows and to wave their arms to try to set off the motion sensor. That didn't work for me. E90Fleet suggested there might be a time delay before it activates, but I haven't had a chance to do another test. I'm busy in Geneva this week. I'll experiment further on the weekend when I return.
