Safety Issues with Flash Tunes

I am considering a Cobb tune for my 335. Has anyone experienced any glitches as a result of a flash / piggyback tune that could compromise safety?

there's always risk with aftermarket tunes.. if you can't accept that don't use one.

Have you checked out any issues with the Alpina software changes? How about Dinan's 2000+ lines of code changes?

Even the factory code has safety issues like with the HPFP failures?

All software will inherently have "issues" and will hopefully be resolved as many people uncover them AND report them. Some issues are minor and not worth a manufacturer fixing them, others get a lot of attention so a manufacturer would rather invest in a fix/deployment rather than risk a law suit loss.

Define “glitches”. Tune induced misfires? Sure. Hardware failing at lower mileage intervals due to the load a tune puts on the part? Yes.

A serious issue with the motor caused by defective software? No, and I’ve never heard of that with Cobb. Their OTS maps are conservative and rock solid at this point.

So If you consider replacing coils at shorter mileage intervals an unacceptable glitch, I’d advise to leave the car stock. All about setting the appropriate expectation and understanding what you’re doing to the car. The motor will be 100% fine if you log with diligence and pay attention.
