New trademarks registered by BMW gives some insight into new model lineups that will eventually be added to BMW's offerings. The new names include: i1, i2, i3, i4, i5, i6, i7, i8, i9, E1, E2, E3, E4, E5, E6, E7, E8, E9, M50d, Urbanic, Gran Coupe, Compactive, and Compactive Tourer.

The "i" lineup of cars could very well be used to designate the sub-compact electric megacity vehicle we've been hearing about for a while. The "E" lineup of cars could possibly be used to designate electric versions of current BMW models. "M50d" is speculated to refer to a tri-turbo diesel. "Urbanic" could be a new trim level associated with the megacity vehicles. And "Compactive and "Compactive Tourer" could be applied to wagons based on the 1- and 3-Series.

Or....

Since we have/have had z3, z4, z8 and x1, x3, x5 and M1, M3, M5, M6 are they going to start naming the cars i1, i3, i5, etc, etc?

Get my drift?

Interesting indeed...

Apparently this is BMW's new supercar, which I bet is what the M50d is all about... you might find it familiar.

That's yours choice - but the BMW Super car that everyone was hoping that will go into production is a diesal/electric hybrid. Like it or not the world is moving towards more effecient power delivery.

Sounds like a touring turned into a trash truck.

It's honestly a shame. After owning around 8-9 BMW's since 2000, I've got to say, I'm disappointed. It's honestly tree huggers that have led BMW down this path.
I am by no means a tree hugger... However, if a diesel car comes out that out performs a gasoline one, then I would have absolutely no problem driving it; ESPECIALLY if it is a daily driver. I sure as hell wouldnt mind a 500+ HP/TQ car that screams like mad on the track but gets 40+ mpg on the highway on the way to work. Why not?

I'll be the guy waving at you as I fly by your m3 in my hybrid m50d. Ever seen a Tesla Roadster? I'd take ya up on a race any day with mine. People like these are the reason why everyone in the world hates Americans. Ignorant...

I'll fly by you all in my space-ship!

Just FYI, a car doesn't have to get 10 miles per gallon to make it "fun" to drive, thinking such thoughts is idiotic, no matter what country your from.

BTW, you do know that Audi has been working on a Diesel offering for their R8, right?

That's old story...something like 370 hp and 700 NM engine, six cylinder tri-turbo. I'm waiting for release and order F10 after that, of course with the new engine.

Not much have been informed lately, maybe we'll see the engine soon??
