Thanks for sharing! If there was one event like this in the states... it would have been packed ... but then again... why would there be one in the State, either you like the BMW 3 or you just hate it... there is no need to convince nor win anyone over.. its just another car among so many others... transportation in Asia is still something reserved only to the most priviledged, and a young market full of competition to win for the image... each car maker has still the chance to anchor their image and reputation among the elite, and by extension the desire of the common people....

They used the silver look Phillips bulbs (Phillips Silver Vision) in the E90, but I believe they got too expensive in the markets where BMW offers free maintenance, so they switched back to amber.

Im sure changing them to the silver look bulbs will be one of the most popular mods on the F30

Well, Hong Kong is a very mature market & major brands have already established their reputations long time ago. BMW did very well during 2011 when it nearly beat Toyota as being the biggest selling brand.
As for these launch events, it's quite common amongst premium brands to try to out-do each other in terms of extravagance. Most of the guests are either local celebs & the press, otherwise it's loyal or prospective BMW customers.

Yes, I agree with clarence that Hong Kong is a very mature market & not a "young market" at all. The competition is hot not because the market is young but because the higher sector is packed with other famous premier brands such as Benz, Porsche, Audi, Lexus,...and Hong Kong is the entry point for BMW into mainland China. After the success in Hong Kong, after BMW entered mainland China, now mainland China is the 3rd largest market of BMW & there are 2 BMW factories in mainland China, then you know Hong Kong is not "young".
BMW & other famous brands already developed their clear image in Hong Kong for many years. Next time if you have a chance to come to Hong Kong, you will feel it.

The only way to grow for a brand in HK is either to hope for ppl changing cars more often or stealing other brand's market share. The bulk of the growth happened during the 70's & early 80's, after that heavy taxes were introduced to stem growth due to lack of road space. All premium European brands (Audi included) have representation in HK since the 50's & 60's, & BMW & Mercedes were still handled by the same companies today.

Actually they do that so they have something ready for the facelift. It's an easy lift to change the lights to LED.

Silver coated bulbs can cause fogging inside the housing... I had both my headlight housings on my 07 X3 completely replaced, and they told me the bulb caused it, and the replacement housings came with the Orange bulbs accordingly.

To be honest, almost no one in HK drives a 3 series/ C-class/ A4. Instead everyone drives a 7 series/ S class or a A8....like a Boss

Who are you kidding? There are plenty of 3 series/C class and A4s in Hong Kong. It's just that there are also alot more big limos like the S class and 7 series in Hong Kong than many other places.

I agree HK is a mature market and was used as a "beachhead" for many auto brands looking to expand into China. Nowadays, Hong Kong's role as the beacon for the mainland has decreased somewhat, many major automakers can go directly to Mainland China. The market tastes between HK and Mainland China is also diverging alot now. For example, you have all those extended length bimmer models in Mainland China that isn't offered in Hong Kong. Audi is seen as the government official car on the Mainland whereas it's just another luxury brand in Hong Kong. The Hong Kong market is more traditional in their tastes, more "Western" if you will.

Truth be told, many HK people who can afford to buy BMW don't really know that much about the bimmers they drive. I suspect many don't even know their cars is rear-wheeled drive or has 50:50 balance. Many HK people buy cars more as a fashion statement to display their status by the badge on the hood. In that respect, it's not much different to the US market, where bimmer fans are numerous but are still very much in the minority of BMW buyers overall.
