Newbie warranty question

So I am finally embarking on the BMW line, having being a Audi head and Subaru in between. I have picked up a 2011 321 xi SULEV with 26K on it. The dealer (not a BMW dealership) is offering me a 3rd party extended warranty for when the BMW warranty expires in 2015. Thing it it's a $2K warrant to bring me a further four years with the usual exclusions. Based on my lifestyle I am most likely looking at averaging 8K miles a year and keeping it for about 3-4 years tops. Asking a question her about taking the extra warranty? With such low mileage and the fact that I won't even hit 50K on the car (chances are about 75%) am I better off stashing the $2K in a saving account for when the day possible happens. Any and all thoughts are appreciated.

Other option is to get the BMW extended warranty. There is a BMW dealer on the forums that offers the BMW ESC warranties at basically cost. Search and you should find him.

with that little mileage on a 328i, and your planned mileage of only 8k a year, I'd keep the money, and put it in your savings for a "just in case" fund. There shouldn't be much going wrong with it with the car over the next few years.. Maybe the water pump and ignition coils, but you should have quite a ways before that happens, and those items will be less than $2k to fix.

of course, if the car turns out to be a lemon, you should know that before your factory warranty is up.
