Buying a Higher Mileage M5/M6

What are the cons to this, I currently own a 2008 e92 335i 6mt and am wanting to upgrade. I have found several e60/63 M5/M6's with around 60-70k miles that are in my price range but I am concerned that with hard driving like I do that I will have transmission issues. Just curious if someone can shed some light on this.

Thanks!

In my opinion get an 08 or newer with manual preferably. The 2006-07 had problems with the vanos pump and the SMG trans...other then that there great cars even with 60-70k miles!!

I would avoid it, I had an e60 M5, I loved everything about it except the transmission and the consumption.

I got rid of it because I didn't trust the trans and knew it would eventually cause a large bill for me when the warranty ran out.

I know, I want one so bad and I will probably only have it a year. I can get a powertrain warrenty for 780$ that will cover it for 24 month or 24k miles through my dealer cost.

don't do it... this is coming from 2nd hand experience...

I have a buddy of mine that is always getting very high millage cars... m5, m3 AMG, s4, etc.

he not only gets stuck with them for a very long time but in order to sell them he needs to make all the repairs for them first and he always goes cheap. Who wants to buy a broken car... especially when the repair bills stack up in the thousands..

Always ends up loosing money on the deal. He is now currently trying to sell a e36 m3 with close to 170,000 miles for $8,000. Nobody wants to buy. why? cause he bought the car as a salvage and restored it cheap.

He has an S4 that is needs to sell too.... close to 200,000 miles.

If you do end up getting a high millage car.... make sure it is immaculate to the point where it has been to very well taken care of it is brand new. Otherwise it is not worth it
