JB4 review

I ordered a Jb4 off mike@x-ph.com, it was a pretty good price, he was fast in his reply's, it took 3 day's for me to get refunded the difference.
I got the JB4 5 day's later, the wires and connectors we're in bubble wrap, *the brain* was not wrapped up or protected and was rattling around the box the whole trip, so there was something loose in the black jb4 box. I hope it's ok and no BMS or JB4 stickers in the box... stop being so cheap and throw a sticker or 2 in

Now the install
The connectors and video looked pretty straightforward, but there's 2 big steps the video doesn't show, I mean why isn't there an updated *complete* step by step video or at least instructions in the box...
Using the video and online instructions it wasn't to bad, but the wires and connectors we're not clearly marked....the jb4 on the video had different colored wires and connectors, I am assuming it's the old JB4 G4, so it was a bit of a guessing game and the car not starting, after troubleshooting for 40mins we figured it out, map 1 wasn't a big difference, but map 5 WOAH it was a different car, after driving it for 5 mins, map 1,2 and 5 we're all a huge step up over stock, I am very happy with the features and performance, but I keep getting SES lights and I reset the code, I haven't had the chance to read the code it on auto clear.

Overall this was a pretty good upgrade, but a few bugs need to get work out.
Mike is the way to go if you want to buy one. http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=898555

I agree with that. With E85 and map 5 it's an animal. Note that I can confirm that doing solid third gear pulls does change the behavior of map 5, after the learning, wow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am starting to do my research now for a tune for my 335i. just got it a month ago. first time BMW owner....
anyway, I plan to keep everything stock, except for probably a cold air intake. which tune do you recommend? is this JB4 an all around good bet, if im keeping everything stock? or is there a better option?
came accross a vishnu tune, and this place http://www.activeautowerke.com/ which is local to me in miami

Cobb is nice in that you don't have to do anything but upload the flash via your OBDII port. However, the Cobb is much more expensive than the JB4. In my opinion, the JB4 is the best all around choice when it comes to performance, features and value.

Hate to turn this into a tuner war and don't mean to hijack thread from OP. Terry and Mike are super nice/responsive and definitely JB tuning shows great result but there is a reason why people go with Cobb.

Do some research.....

Cobb V2's can be had for not much more than a new JB4 costs.

Yeah guy's just buy a cobb, I hit the limiter at 155 last night, the car pull very well and wanted to keep pulling but the damn limiter. Now I need to buy a bms SLD for 150 something dollar's or buy a cobb and do the backend flash.....gerrr!!!
I am still getting SES light every time i drive it, I have to delete all codes and it's fine for a little bit. No I didn't read the code yet...
Overall it keeps costing me more and the Jb4 is not a bad upgrade if you got it really cheap...

It's not worth it, if I am going to buy a cobb anyway

You could buy a $179 bt cable and do the backend flash which would get rid of the limiter

Actually you can remove the SLD for $10 by adding in the SLD wires but at elevation on low octane fuel you will go a lot faster adding in the PUMP back end flash. And that flash also eliminates the speed limiter. I'd strongly suggest it.

Also if you have a code don't ignore it. Read it and resolve it.

So is it just the Dinan flashs that remove top end limiters?

As suggested previously you shouldn't ignore codes and definitely not be pushing the car if you experienced any.

Guys I have an issue just took the JB4 out today to take car to dealership except the main orange power wire snapped off... So Its just crimped together right now. Anyways I have no turbos at all and its always throwing the half engine light. I only took chip out because the half engine light came on with the chip in. Now I dont even have power what do you guys think it is? Maybe the wires weren't put back properly? Worried now because the wires are together properly and when I put the chip back I don't even know if i can...
