Did I blow my sub?

I was driving my car earlier and I noticed a great loss of bass. All speakers work the same so I don't think it is any of them but perhaps the sub. Would anyone have an idea? Where's the sub in an e90 BMW 325XI Sedan anyway? I must admit I've just recently got it.

I did... I was hoping myself that it was only bad configuration but no... I might have listened to music a little too loud.

You have one sub under each front seat. Put your head down there to make sure absolutely no bass is being produced. If you hear nothing at a moderate volume level, the respective amp channels may be blown (a blown speaker would still produce "sound" so you would definitely hear that).

Is there anyway I can get a fully detailed description of the sound system? I'm not even sure how many speakers there are in it. I counted seven if that pod in the middle dash is covering up a speaker. By the way, thanks for the tip, I'll check out those subs later.

Sounds more like a shortage of your amp, not your sub. Blown speakers (subs included) still work and produce noise, they just don't produce quality noise and become static-y. I would check the connections and fuse of your amp.

Really, I think it's that speaker in the dash. It feels very weak. Is it possible? If so, how hard is to take that out? Does the dash need to be removed? Honestly I don't know much when it comes to car audio and it's driving me nuts. Where's that amp anyway?

the dash speaker is a center channel that wouldn't produce bass...

Well, I still haven't figured it out. I went to BMW and they said it sounds fine although I know it does not. I'm guessing it's the subs. Would anyone know what brand and model they are?

I'm interested as well, actually. Noticed a distinct loss of bass in my car today as well...it made me sad.

It might be a lot of things: fuse, subwoofer, amp, preamp, your ear adapting to bass so you don't hear it too loud anymore, etc..

It has been stated at least twice that speakers still produce sound after they are blown. This distorted and/or mechanical sound of a blown speaker is quite obvious. So if the subs were blown, the OP would still hear SOMETHING coming from under the seats.

This leaves us with two possibilities:

1. The OP is deaf in the frequencies below 150Hz

2. The respective amp channels are blown

I can't believe I have to point this out but the obvious proof of the amp not working would be to remove one of the grilles, crank up the volume and the bass setting, and see if there is any movement of the cone. If it moves, the OP has a problem with his hearing, and if it doesn't, the amp is blown.

It happened to me once. By accident I had may fader to Front all the way and it also reduces bass.

1st check your settings.
2nd check fuses for the amp
3rd check your sub
......

That is how I would do it.

Let's assume it's the amp fuse. Do you happen to know where that resides in an E90 LCI? Is it in the fuse box? If so, are you aware of which fuse it is?

I would expect the L7 amp to have only one power supply so there can be only one main fuse. Doesn't really matter where the fuse is located though, since a blown fuse would mean ZERO music, from any of the speakers.
